    I didn't time it, but it seemed to be about 24 hours to decrypt the 1TB SSD using the rescue disk. Thanks for the all of the info and help!

    Success! Thank you. The VeraCrypt installation was still there and veracrypt.sys was in the \Windows\System32\drivers folder. The KBs I had installed: KB4056887 (Failed, 0x800f0845) KB4056892 (Failed, 0x800f0845) KB890830 (Succeeded) I decrypted using the rescue disk and Windows was then able to automatically repair the errors and boot (without needing to even enter the recovery menu). I found the original cause of Windows not booting - it was KB4056892 (Microsoft's Meltdown/Spectre fix that fails...

    Thanks for the info Kurt! I have backed up the drive as a dd image. I also do have Linux with VeraCrypt installed which I have used to mount the volume and all of the files are now accessible that way so that's great. Do I have any options of now repairing the Windows boot from Linux?

    Windows 10 1709 was running with full drive system encryption (MBR, not UEFI) and received Windows updates. Upon reboot, the Veracrypt 1.21 loader is shown and the correct password is accepted, but then the Windows logo is shown without the spinning loading animation below it and that screen stays unchanged. If I force a restart and Windows can't load 3 times then it runs the automatic repair on the next one. When it does this I can use a command prompt to run diskpart and I see that the filesystem...
