I have now found that the wrapping issue depends on how CDE is started. The 'stty -a' output is then different on the same install. The opost argument seems to be the one that makes the difference: 'startx /usr/dt/bin/Xsession' - bad dtterm, 'stty -a' shows -opost with leading dash. '/usr/dt/bin/dtlogin -daemon' - good dtterm, 'stty -a' shows opost with no dash. Other GUI login session file - good dtterm, 'stty -a' shows opost with no dash.

I just compiled CDE on Ubuntu 18.04 and dtterm is working but I have seen the return/linefeed issue as well before. I'm not sure of the exact Ubuntu/Debian and CDE combination at the time.
