Catbird Linux 2.3 to upload 2024/02/24 (Boot issue bugfix)
Hello Bud, That behavior is exactly what I was experiencing on one of my test machines (a 14 year old Turion CPU). It stopped booting the iso file when I switched from the older realtime kernel and took a much more recent version 6.5 one. It may be that this newer kernel won't work with the bios in your hardware. It is a type x64v4 in this most recent iso. Just in case it is a matter of the bootloader setup, here is an example of working Grub code. Those other similar projects, which I bumped back...
Hello Bud and swlistener, There was an error in the Grub config contained in the iso files for these Debian Sid based versions of Skywave and Catbird Linux. The newest uploads now point to the proper kernel 6.6.16. These newer kernels are x64-v3, which won't boot on a lot of hardware with older bios. That is a bit of a pain, as they won't boot on my oldest laptop, 14 years old, which was great for testing. Booting is okay on newer equipment in legacy / bios mode. Here is the Grub2 code in the iso,...

If any of you critics out there want to argue, "this isn't about you - why get involved?" I reply that "It is about someone and the least of any people is enough. FWIW, sometimes it is about me.

Welcome to Skywave Linux, Davod. You have arrived some time after the storm when version 4 came out and a few people hated i3. My position has always been that anyone can copy what they like into a setup they find more favorable. This one, with i3, works and proudly stands apart from the other Linux flavors trying to be the next Windows. Here is a demo, with my response to the critics: Skywave Linux 4.1 I must ask: have you actually booted the system yet? The application launcher / start menu pops...
Interacting with the system through i3 is a bit different from basic MATE or Gnome. Yes, you still have some of the excellent MATE applications, but you'll find them and work with the windows via the keyboard. Demo videos are available to show workflow in Skywave Linux v4 and the special Skywave-Flashback version. First, right click on the workspace number or use "Super + r" to bring up the Rofi, the app launcher / start menu. It lists applications according to how frequently you open them. The search...

If anyone wants to get the latest versions of any of the config files or scripts in Skywave Linux, see the repositories where I keep the works-in-progress and a fair amount of older parts used in earlier iso releases. I don't dwell in other forums much, just here and on Github, as these are well focused on Linux, system building, and getting the apps to run properly. (grin) Most of the other forums draw too much spam and trolls, and life is too short for the BS.
You would need to replace the binary with a newer one, or clone and build something like dump1090-fa from git. The map resides in its own folder, and can be replaced with one of the newer maps. It has been a long time since I've looked into the directory structure for the version 3 isos, but believe the map directory was in /usr/local/share. The wrapper which starts dump1090 and the map is with the scripts in /usr/local/sbin.
