Loaded two more machines by the book. On Dell leaving the USB in worked fine and after boot I was prompted to remove it! On Toshiba leaving in or removing it before boot led to error messages and system hang. Cured by power cycle. Installation success is highly dependent on BIOS settings. - I had to disable secure boot to use the USB. After install I could use secure boot for HD boot with no issues. - On Toshiba units I also had to disable USB3 and enable USB legacy support to obtain USB boot. That...

Tried again on a different machine. Left USB inserted when clicking reboot button. Threw a bunch of errors and hung on restart. Removed USB & power cycle brought it back. Otherwise the same.

Hi Andy, I reinstalled again from scratch to be sure I could describe the issues correctly. Step 2: The iso is not corrupt. Step 4: I used Rufus on W10. Step 7a: I chose Install Xubuntu. Step 10: Erase disk... At this point the install script prompts for timezone: I chose CST (Chicago) Next it asks "Who are you?" and demands name and password info. Hi Andy, They are Toshiba Satellite L855-S5121 first produced in 2013. Has 2x USB-3 ports and one USB-2 port. BIOS is dated 2016-08-24. BIOS indicates support for UEFI and secure boot (I have secure boot turned off). I had been trying with 32G & 128G USB-3 drives because I didn't have any 8GB handy. Ordered a couple of different 8GB USB-2 drives to try. While I was waiting for rufus to write the new 8GB drive I tried tweaking the BIOS again. I turned off USB-3, no joy. Then I enabled USB legacy emulation...

Hi Andy, I successfully installed on a Dell laptop. I followed all of the installation instructions to the letter. However I've been unable to install on two Toshiba laptops. I get a media error on boot. I've tried multiple USB drives. I have been able to install vanilla xubuntu from a DVD on the Toshiba. When installed it can read the HR Linux USB drive perfectly. Is there a way to install your HR Linux from DVD? It is too large to fit a standard DVD. Or is there a way to boot in vanilla xubuntu...
