Unfortunately Google shut of access to gtalk/hangouts via XMPP. You'll need to switch to the newer Google Chat plugin to keep using Pidgin. The method shown in the video still works (just tested) you just need to make sure you use the link in the description. Also, you might want to have a look at the Google Chat plugin, since I'm not working on the Hangouts plugin any more: https://github.com/EionRobb/purple-googlechat

The History plugin is indeed the way to load in the previous conversation into the window, but this will be the previous conversation based on how the logging works Few different options for you: You can change the "Close IMs immediately when the tab is closed" setting in Tools->Preferences->Conversations - this gives a delay to keep the log running for a while longer and doesn't close off the log file immediately You can install and use the SQLite Logging plugin which stores logs in a SQLite database...

This happens because of rate limits. Setting the "Buddy list sync interval" setting in the Advanced tab of the account to a large number (eg 300) can help with this, but it's not foolproof

If you can't press enter to send, then that normally means the account isn't connected. Check at the bottom of the buddy list to see if there aren't any connection errors, and/or look in the Accoutns List to make sure that the Hangouts account is enabled (has a tick at the start of the line)
