May be OK now First screenshot with errors is when I started Jack after restart, 2nd is after I restarted Jack with RT unchecked, then again with it checked. Thank you very much for help., will carry on testing and trying out different settings. We're having a small music room extension added to our house so won't be setting up a studio until later in the year at least.

I might try that grub customizer but will it work in Linux Mint? I’m going over your last two replies to me, to catch up on them I’m making a bit more sense of buffers and latency settings. I have uninstalled qjack from the software centre and have left the audio group so I can reinstall and rejoin group, because I think I first installed qjack before I installed kxstudio. I've been all day trying to get that lowlatency kernel to boot by default, I think I have succeeded by a very simple solution of adding two lines to the /etc/default/grub file. But that's by the by. Thank you Ignoto and Gilgongo, I think I have finally made some progress. The screenshot of the Synaptic window showing which kernel to install was useful. I have completed Ignotus’s list now. Now with buffer set at 128 the sound from other jammers is not breaking up. I have had no hangs so far, even after opening and closing Audacity. “Install the one ( there will be several, go for the one with the latest version number) that says 'image'.” Your screenshot pointed to a different one. Ignotus, I still don't understand. As for the meta package, just locate it and install it, How/where do I locate it? I typed "linux-lowlatency meta-package" into the synaptic search box and it just came up with the same result and message. to Gilgongo Re 128, my problem in this thread is hangs and possible conflicts with Audacity but I posted in Hardware that since I got my Focusrite I have had trouble with settings and cannot set below 256 anyway as it chops up all the sound output. Thank you for the link to low latency explanation, will try that now. One guy in the other thread thinks it is not solvable by low latency kernels and my cpu may not be coping, but I posted him back a screenshot of cpu in system monitor, which seemed OK....

The kxstudio installer told me that I already had the “same version is already installed” of the kxstudio-repos. What does it mean if you have a repository installed? I can’t find any program on my system called kx.studio. And why do I need it? I clicked on reload in Synaptic. I didn’t select any packages. Gilgongo asked for this screenshot. I am now using the Focusrite Scarlett gen 3 2i2. I haven't noticed any improvement over the previous interface I used, which was a zoom r 16 mixer in Audio I/O mode. I first posted in the hardware section. How do you record by the jamulus server?

wrt realtime scheduling, in my qjackctl setup window, it is already checked. Does that imply that any of the above does not need to be done?

BTW under the users tab in that screenshot, I am in "audio" and about 7 others, but under the "gropups" tab, the same list of groups is presented, but not one of them is checked. I don't understand that.

Tonight after getting an “unable to connect” message in the jamulus mixer window, I noticed that I was again getting XRUNs. Once this happens I am unable to stop Jack properly. Sometimes it apparently stops after a long wait, but then it won’t start properly, the windows open but there are no graphics inside. So I have to do a reboot. Usually I can connect to servers normally, but once I get a “unable to connect” in the jamulus mixer window then I find I cannot close qjackctl. I can run Audacity,...

Hello Running jamulus 3.5.3git I have just bought a Scarlett 3rd gen 2i2. It works after a fashion and I can join a jamulus jam but I don't understand the settings and cannot figure out if my latency should be improved. I am just using a standard vocal mic to play a saxophone through. I use headphones and an Ethernet cable. The jamulus settings window and the qjackctl both say that my latency is 10.7ms If I select a local server in jamulus, the best ones are 12ms ping time, the overall delay is at...

Hi I am able to make recordings on Audacity with my Zoom R16 as the Audio Interface, but they are not very good. The required setting is Jack as the audio host, and Jamulus as the device. The main problem is a regular break of 15ms every 500 ms in the recording. Can anyone suggest a setting to eliminate this? Thank you benawhile

Hi I'm on 3.5.3 My contribution to the debate about what "Mute Myself" is supposed to do. My concerns are the same as so many: From Github #187 we want a feature that will remove any risk of accidentally allowing noise from our connection to intrude on other users on the server. Going back over this advice Strange that the test said my rubbish hardware was OK but the cable and Ethernet internet was a slow ping, although that may have been due to factors on my side of the router I suppose. Just to say I got it to work at an extremely basic level and enjoyed my first online jam. I was using very basic stuff, the mic was a tiny analogue Woolworth quality thing. I must have sounded terrible but no one complained. So it seems that it will work with analogue in and analogue out without any extra adjustment, presumably as they both use the one sound card? I see there is a very cheap Behringer product: Behringer UCA202 U-Control with just phono L & R in and out. I can afford the focusrite...

Very helpful. It's sinking in! I think I couldn't get my head round the fact that, for example, using Pulse Audio, I can record in via Internet>Soundcard>Audacity and listen via Soundcard>Analogue O/P all at once, so why couldn't Jack, with all it's connection options, use the same soundcard with sound data going both directions in the same way. Have found a plain analogue mic as well so will try a few combinations and see if I get any further. I know the sax will sound terribbly clipped on it because...

I'm still not sure if everything goes through the soundcard, or some things like the USB can bypass it somehow. I have a mini mixer, a Fame-Mix 802usb that I think is now under a diffent name, T-Mix, on the Thomann.de website, that I can use with analogue or usb connection, if I used USB would that be any different from using webcam? As you say they may not have been able to hear me at all and were joking. On experience up to that point they shouldn't have heard me as I had selected the generic HD Audio interface. In any case, I had muted myself and turned my slider down so was surprised to hear someone say that, but maybe again, he was joking. Everyone says saxes are noisy after all. Yes, using webcam as the only mic By the way I listened in on a jam last night and heard someone say "a noisy saxophone has just joined" I wasn't playing and thought I was muted, as there was background noise in my room, and I got out quick without bothering them to ask if they meant noisy conversation or static/white noise.

I have a detailed post prepared with recent progress, basically I can either output or input but not both with my set up, but first I will try the up to date version from tormodvolden, and before that I need a clean uninstall of what I have I ran "Make clean" and "make uninstall" from the Jamulus directory but got : ben@ben-B450-AORUS-M:~/Desktop/Jamulus3.4.4$ make uninstall make: Nothing to be done for 'uninstall'. I'm interested but only got the program running yesterday and still trying to set up properly As of yesterday other peole could hear me but I couldn't hear them, and didn't realise they could hear me! Which was quite comical until they had to ask me to shhh, politely! I am in UK, please keep me informed and hopefully will be set up in a few days. by the way, when terminal accesses the downloaded Jamulus folder it changes the contents by adding about 200 extra .o files. Should I re-extract that folder for every fresh attempt at installing?

Thank you, following those links, I have got as far as carrying out the last "make" command apparently with success This link https://github.com/corrados/jamulus/wiki/Installation-for-Linux next tells me to set up the sound card with Jack and provides a link to do it. But I don't undestand the info there. But did not the very first command install Jack? btw I have kept my termnal open, it has finished running so is it safe to close it?
