@ Peppermint OS Did a fresh mini install of cinnamon today. Refractasnapshot does not work (same hardware as xfce ) If you want me to test something, say so. Please give very clear instructions as what to...how to...where Thanks
For what it's worth ( to devs ) I just discovered -by install- that there is another famous Distro with same problem regarding Cinnamon+Thunar and family+xfce4 packages Name withheld-Sorry
OK, Understood
@ Peppermint OS Just to confirm: After installing 26 appz and all usual configurations, I tried Refractasnapshot again. Works perfectly in standard xfce install See you
Why is mirror ossplanet supplying still a 149 mb iso, while sourceforge is supplying a 509mb iso
Cavy This is as short as I can get it In pepdevmini you get choices of 1-devuan , 2 Peppermint Desktop , 3-various desktop environmets etc etc etc Next: Yesterday I was on a afternoon-come-together with 11 linux users, 3 Windows11 user, 1 Mac user. I presented them with the layout-pic and asked their opinion All, except Mac user, marked Peppermint Desktop as to be installed.( as this is Peppermint and we want a desktop) This is wrong. What you devs understand with Peppermint desktop is very different...
Sorry, I can not supply you with info. I cleaned all my HD's from all test-this-and-that However, I can reassure thar refractasnapshot works on pepdev-xfce clean install of today ( no applications added ) I will not have much time this week for try-this-and-that
I tried Refracta on 2 different hard drives with pep-cinna Both failed ( the same hard drive, in Devuan , Refracta worked properly) About 5 to 10 seconds before I expected it to end, it just quits. Checking in end location, ISO folder is empty, WORK folder is full This is on peppermint cinnamon On peppermint xfce it worked last time I tried about a month ago No, for me, timeshift is useless Thanks for reading
Cavy Thanks for reply. I will respond in full tomorrow, Monday. See you short note; the installer works, if and IF.......but......But.......

Today I tried the PepMini-dev-amd64-2024-02-26.iso Same gardware, same partition -- Installed properly Also created a proper login menu where all my other installs were visible and accessible One note. < Running update grub > took over 5 minutes, but ended well.

Thanks for the replies but Today I decided to give it another try I downloaded the Mini-install, put on usb and started. The instalation went flawlesly up to : < Installing x-server-xorg-legacy (amd64). After that an error message to try again--->> which I did NOT do >. Instead I carried on ignoring next error and next Installatio finished Rebooted, and as expected , no bootin menu There I had a choice a-boot in via USB stick b-install other distro ( pclos) I choose b for my own reasons After install...

@ Scarborough Fair. I am very happy that you bring up the << servers on the update site > ! Let me , just once this year, say exactly how I feel. The F-Servers F- Suck F-Big Time..... I have been busy trying again and again and again and again, for over 12 hours sometime, then finally giving up and trying again next day. I also tried from my nephews house...same F-story. And it's going on for more than 6 months now That's all I have to contribute .....today Have a good time. Don't bother responding....I...

also it works perfect but looked nothing like the screenshot on its page, just had a slider and button only version. not sure if thats a design change or somethings missing. Yes, that works, but is incomplete and thus not acceptable That's why I tried flatpak It gives you ch.x29a.playitslowly.flatpakref And now ? ? ?
OK, after x days searching the internet, I discovered that it was right under my nose. Peppermint Hub - Flat Hub grrr grrrrr :-) I downloaded it into my Download box..installed flatpak......but after executing the commands...._>nothing Any help ?

My new setup is complete, except for a single application. It is < Playitslowly > Playitslowly is available in many Debian distros ( not peppermint) I need advice/help to get that into my installation I have searched the web, but the more I read, the more I get confused So, I will rely ONLY on the answers here BTW, I (+6 students ) use this app daily in another distro I want it here :-) :-)
I have installed the latest Cinnamon and LXQT 2023/11/ Bot install flawlessly and both are "very" fast on my old hardware I will need some time to test more and deeper. See you later
By right-click on menu I get following: Add to Favourites Add to Desktop Add to Panel Edit Applications Hide Applications The 'Add to....' does not change anything for the better The 'Edit ..." I gives you options, but I don't have a clue what to do or not to do. Next ? ?

OK Thanks for the explanation and education. As this has nothing to do with Peppermint devs, we have to accept. My apologies ! See you in next ! :-)
Hi I installed Refractasnapshot + GUI. It appears in the menu, but clicking once or 10 times does nothing However, it works flawlessly from commandline Have fun !
After installing Nemo file manager , I go to /Settings/Default applications There you have the choice of File managers When I enter Nemo , I get a failure message on trying to open it. When I enter nemo, all is well. But......on opening the file manager, it says it's Nemo, not nemo Please fix this typo-error when you got nothing else to do :-) :-)
What-ever you modified , thanks a lot. I guess my old eyes need an update/upgrade too :-)
Hopefully the last time.....>>> Today 20 November 2023 In order to get a fresh install of minuet working, you need this: sudo apt install qml-module-qtquick-controls2 sudo apt install qml-module-qtquick-layouts + sudo apt install qml-module-qtquick-controls ( no-2-here )
------->i dont bother with os backups nowadays, Yes, you are right. I shouldn't either. 90% of them you never need. It's just the other 10% which come in handy sometimes :-) :-)
Would be nice. Thanks. I had it last week. Then I had a crash. My whole backup partition, all ISOs and AppImages are all.......on holiday. And that was just 2 days before I planned to do my 6 monthly clean & backup to external drive. Its also the only crash I had in 10 years. OK Live goes on !
Yes, I will do that tomorrow. Thanks a lot for the tip But synaptic is still not fixed with me being clever :-) :-)
@cavy I have used timeshift for some time now, and although it functions well, it's not for me. I stick with < backup to ISO > , which can be used for anything any time any place anyone. But thanks anyway to lure me into trying it. I learned !
I have used Timeshift for some time. It works well, but...but...but I prefer to make an ISO which I can put on single USB or Ventoy-stick and carry with me and can install any time any place any comp Long live < mylivecd > :-) :-)
Thank you for that link. Up to now, I never ever owned a mobile. But....there are a few in the family who are going to replace < their > mobile around Christmas. Then I get the old one.......for free :-) I suppose I will try Peppermint too. -> not directly related : I would like to download peppermint-devuan 2022. Any links you know about. The latest works well, but I want the 2022 edition also
I installed Httrack. It works fom commandline, but.... It's not in the menu.....nowhere Peppermintos-Devuan- latest - installed yesterday All other seem to be OK
Andre You also can use httrack to download the whole website of xfce I do that regularly (downloading other sites) and update every3 months or so

OK Thanks.
Just curious..........Do you have an LG Monitor ? ? I have simular issues, but only when I connect LG Monitor Never seen before in my life
@Pierre Andre You should be able to connect to inet even if you are still on your Bootup USB drive. Bottom right in taskbar. Small white icon.
Hi Mr Impatient could not wait :-) I downloaded the AppImage which works perfectly for what I need it. Done ! Next on the Block............./Educarion/Minuet. Last time I tried I had to experiment with libs who where updated but It worked on the end. Hope I get it right this time.
Will try some testing on the dmidiplayer player.... OK thanks Some info...I tried the very same version number in my old (unused)rpm distro. Works fine there. But......no hurry from my side :-)
@ Adam Hughes Thanks a lot. Settings done Greetings
I downloaded and installed the new Devuan64 ISO After installation I noticed that Nemo was not Installed, which I did do. However, How do I make Nemo my filemanager----permanent <-- Thanks note1- An annoyance in Pulseaudio is fixed...thanks a lot. Note 2 - dmidiplayer does not want to play midi files oob - nothing urgent !.
---->> is AcorOS as light on system resources as peppermint os? I don't know " how light " it is, but.. I have tried 4 of them on my 10 year old Lenovo (not msdos partitioning ) and all runs just fine.

Hi I changed from devuan.org to devuan.nz Everything is OK Did full install ( 26 appz ) - no problems Thanks for the Info
Thank you very, very much for that info. I had a quick look and found a page where the status of Devuan mirors is shown per every 5 minutes. I will have a further ( deeper ) look at it tomorrow . btw, it's still the same, generally speaking. Brandnew ISO install, updating takes aaaages and installing, well you know. I think I wait for the-new-iso-coming-soon :-) :-) See you later.
cavy, it's not me who should worry, but you people should ! The errors I get are now over a 12 hour period and still happening. It's not my computer nor my internet connection, because I have done 2 perfect installs + applications with another distro.( as test only) So, ---I guess--- the issue is on your side. Download xfce goodies ---> all get installed , minus 2 packages Download luckybackup ---> database get installed but not actual program and a dozen more, where the download is 90% of the total...
On both ....a new install on desktop and an update on laptop, I get a few dozen messages like this" W: Failed to fetch http://deb.devuan.org/merged/pool/DEBIAN/main/w/wildmidi/wildmidi_0.4.3-1_amd64.deb Connection failed [IP: 5.9.122.185 80] W: Failed to fetch http://deb.devuan.org/merged/pool/DEBIAN/main/f/freepats/freepats_20060219-3_all.deb Connection failed [IP: 103.146.168.12 80] Failed to fetch http://deb.devuan.org/merged/pool/DEBIAN/main/libb/libburn/libburn4_1.5.2-1_amd64.deb Connection...
Yes, I know you didn't fall asleep. Carry on testing, I carry on waiting :-) :-) The actual reason I was posting is that my-lots-of- free time is finished after the 7th sept. That's all :-)

2 weeks are up :-) ?
@cavy Apologies! I should have mentioned that I use Redo Bootloader in another rpm based distro. My bad ! As for Timeshift....I am ( theoretical ) well aware of what Timeshift is and does, but I never have used it ( except a 10 minutes trial ) , because I always used MyLivecd to make backups.--->click1-click2-click3-----> iso ready in 10 minutes. However, since you seem to be a fanatic for Timeshift, I have done some < more > research and < reviews .> and have decided to give it a very-very-serious...
To cavy and others You could provide an application called < Redo Bootloader > I use it already for years
........hopefully we ........... Hopefully those 2 weeks pass quickly. Waiting patiently :-) :-)
Thanks a lot for that I will try this out as soon as possible. Could take a few days :-) Thanks
@ Alynur Yes, that would help me a lot if I knew how Right now I pull keyb 1 out and plug keyb 2 in and the other way too of course This works , but....but so darn inconvenient, because sometimes I get funny messages ( which I just ignore, as they are gone after a reboot ) Thanks for remembering me
This is a personal opinion - feel free to differ for any reason When you start installing applications , the folder /var/cache/apt start filling up After a while, you can have 1 to 3Gb of accumulated files, which have no use for 95% of users. Also,90% of the ordinary users don't know about this. I suggest that you set ( as default) > Synaptic/Settings/Preferences/Files to: Delete downloaded packages after installation. This will save some people some problems. Trust me ! I had 2 people this week....

Yup , That works OK
I right-click on the bottom bar, then put the mouse pointer on panel, click logout. then choose what I want to do:either shut down, or reboot or other. And I never have seen a disconnect button And I am also an old man - 78 And just in case you will ask, I am running the latest PeppermintOS 64 Devuan
I tried again today. The error is gone, in both installs Thanks
I downloaded - Installed - updated the Mate version today. All works very well and it's very good looking. I only tested a few Appz, but it looks good However, there is one thing. After installation and reboot.......there is only one ! If you want to have access to your other installations...... ..........>> cavy's advice/instructions are somewhere on this forum Personally, I have zero problems with it All by all.......very nice.
I have another one for you...........I think 4 days ago - updating sda2 1 day ago - updating sda8 Today ; special install with synaptic update. on sda4 On all occasions I get following message: Failed to fetch http://deb.devuan.org/merged/pool/DEBIAN/main/g/glibc/libc-dev-bin_2.31-13%2bdeb11u6_amd64.deb Connection failed [IP: 160.16.137.156 80] it does not seem to effect the standard functioning of my OS You Need specifics ? tell me exactly what :-)

You may think about the following themes as they will be needed soon: Humanity Theme , Numix Theme , Papyrus Theme , Vibrant Colors Theme , Vivid Colors Theme I'll come back to this soon.
I think the starting screen is just great Keep it

Hi Nice movies, but in my opinion it's incomplete. In my opinion, an install is only complete after a reboot, which shows that all is right and you can press < start > But.......that's me :-)
Yes, that would be OK I suppose.
This new approach of blocking peoples computers simply SUCKS and is plain forward stupid. Just my very honest opinion,! :-) Edit: A solution would be, an icon on the install iso >> Do you want ONE or ALL <<

@ Peppermint OS Thanks for all the information I read the links. I do not agree with their aproach , but, it's a minor thing for me ( once you know ) So....carry on :-)
Do a search on this forum about < Grub > cavy gave instuctions how to fix this Don't worry Your systems are still there And I fully agree with you with < idiocy > as this should be fixed BEFORE releasing the ISO

Message deleted Found solution 15 minutes after posting = press the right key :-( Thanks Can someone tell me howto install/enable 2 keyboards
Can someone tell me howto install/enable 2 keyboards 1--both have the same layout ( american English qwerty ) 2--only one has to be active at a time, but I must be able to switch to the other one in a second or two ( push of a button ) However, If both are active at the same time is also OK for me. Instructions are Ok Link to...somewhere is also OK If not possible, I will have to put 28 stickers on my keys... Baaaah If needed more info from me...OK Thanks for reading Last....is this a "" Must have...
Hi Every now and then I get same or similar behavior. I pull out my USB-Wifi-connector and plug in again. Then all is OK for a few days. Note: I do not want a solution. I live with it :-)
Thanks cavy I had this in front of me, but somehow I still screwed up. Happens sometime :-)
