Hello everyone, I see from the man page that xz does not support symbolic links. Is this ever likely to change? I have been using 7z on windows and that doesn't support symbolic links either, and is not likely to do so in the near future (people have been asking for years). Is xz code based on 7z code? That might explain why lz doesn't support it yet. Regards, Andrew Marlow http://www.andrewpetermarlow.co.uk

Once I found that you have to do this from the directory CPP/7zip I am pleased to say that this worked a treat. Thank you very much. Please consider adding this information somewhere in the source, possibly in the README.md file.

ok. In that case I propose that by default 7z follows symbolic links. It already seems to do this if the link is a directory but not if it is a file. Also I think there should be an option to tell it to archive the link rather than following it. Unpacking such an archive should result in symlinks being restored, with an error if the linked-to file is not there. I started to look at doing this but I found it hard to see how 7z is built. Perhaps you could provide some instructions please? I plan to...

Hello everyone, This is a request for the source distribution to contain documentation on how to build 7z and which version(s) of Visual Studio are supported. FWIW, I am on Windows 10 building with Visual Studio 2017 (aka vc15). Regards, Andrew Marlow http://www.andrewpetermarlow.co.uk

Some people will prefer the link to be followed, others not. That's why unix archive tools give you the option. By default these tools don't follow the link then there is option to follow links. That's what's needed here.
