The only thing I can think of is bluetooth being enabled. Remember, PepOS is minimalistic so you might not have bluetooth installed.
This appears to be a hardware problem. Problem is present in any of the other O/S's I have installed in the hard drive. I have run an fsck on each partition and all are clean. So I don't know. Trouble shooting time coming up.
Not sure what happened but the disabling of mouse and keyboard became untolerable, like within minutes of going into brave browser. I performed a Timeshift restore and will see how things go.
I was trying to make the switch but absolutely no way could I open the file "compton.desktop". I got it, I had to right click on the file and open with mousepad text editor. So what output should I see after running "pgrep -l compton"?

Hi guys, as stated, every once in a while, both the mouse and keyboard freeze with apparent power loss to both. Unplugging and replugging of either has no affect. I am forced to power off and restart to continue, You can imagine how frustrating this is. Hi Joplin, check out this site, https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht117661-how-to-change-the-boot-order-in-bios-for-windows-7-8-81-10 maybe it can help you.
From Stack Exchange "Yes, you can connect any number of keyboards simultanously (as long as it's physically possible with your hardware). The "X Input" extension manages multiple input devices, you can use the xinput commandline tool to configure them, and you can also assign them to different "seats" (combinations of keyboard/monitor) or use them alternatively with one monitor." I've never used the xinput commandline tool so I can't help you with that.
I'm assuming you installed the .deb version? According to the forticlient support, the deb file has been updated and they suggest downloading the deb file anew. So if you did in fact install the deb file, uninstall it, delete it and download it again.
Hey OldTon, are you still trying to install/enable 2 keyboards?
Try this, boot up a live session with a usb stick. Open Gparted to identify your hard drive partitions while in the live session. The sda? partition would be the partition you want to install the boot loader into, in this case your Pep OS. Reinstall Grub on Hard Drive from live USB session BIOS SYSTEM sudo mount /dev/sda? /mnt sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda sudo umount /mnt
It looks like by what you want to do, you will have to experiment and accept the worse should it happen. So List your current Home partition as your mount point for your new Home partition and don't reformat it. But if you're going to dual boot, make another partition for the second OS and format it as ext4. Before any of this, I would recommend reading up on making DATA partitions and using symlinks.
I have the solution for AMD graphics. Maybe somebody has the solution for Intel graphics? Check out this site https://www.makeuseof.com/fix-screen-tearing-on-linux/
Intel or AMD graphics?
Just to be clear, you are attempting a Legacy install, correct?

Hi Jay Swenberger, here's an old symlink cheat sheet I was aided with way back in my Pep 6 days. I still refer to it when I need to jar my memory. Hope it helps. Ps: credit AndyinMokum for the cheat sheet

"ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing" is telling you to stop the X server and then run the installation. Once the installation is complete, restart the X server. Do an internet search for x server debian 11 to find out how. Be sure to create a fresh snapshot of your system before you proceed.
Okay, first I understand that your monitor's name is "eDP" correct? And the command does change your brightness. Go to Settings, Session and Startup and click on Application Autostart. Check that the program "brightness.desktop is listed and checked.
This looks to be for intel processors only.
Hi generalmooseance, if you open a terminal and run the code above xrandr --output DisplayPort-0 --brightness .65 using your mnitor's display name of course, does it change your brightness? And what does line 4 of the startup script you created look like?
So you were able to find your monitor's display name and used that in the created bash file? Remember "DisplayPort-0" is my monitor's display name.
You may also want to instal hplip-gui sudo apt install hplip-gui
I have to change my brightness every night. Here are the instructions that were in the old forum. Find display name xrandr | grep " connected" | cut -f1 -d " " Change brightness xrandr --output DisplayPort-0 --brightness .65 DisplayPort-0 is my monitor's display name. Set Startup Display Brightness, open a terminal and run the following commands in order. cd ~/.config/autostart gedit brightness.desktop Make it read and then save and exit. 1 [Desktop Entry] 2 Name=Screen Brightness Autostart 3 Comment=Set...
Check this one out. https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1639834
I think you, generalmooseance, should make a new thread under "Hardware" so we can discuss ways of solving this. That way, others who might be interested in this subject will have a reference point where they can look.
Hi GEMS, do you know how to work with Synaptic Package Manager?
You can find Eko in the Appimage Hub under Audio Apps/Music Production
What is the chown command you are entering into the terminal?
Your USB device may be defective. Check this site for more information. https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/fix-usb-device-port-linux/
Does the flash drive show up in lsusb? Open a terminal and type in lsusb and hit enter.
The most common mistake is trying to install into a UEFI computer while being booted up in a legacy live version.
Before throwing in the towel, with the winders hard drive removed, and with legacy boot enabled, boot up your live memory stick, make sure it boots up in legacy mode. Then go to gparted and at the end of the last partition, P10 or POS, shrink about 15gb and make a new partition. Install whichever os you booted up into that partition as usual. Be sure to install the boot loader into the ssd and not to a partition. The computer should bootup into the new partition and you can then run sudo update-grub...
I use mkusb, it works quite well.

Have you tried unplugging the windows drive and trying to boot only the dual boot drive?
Try booting up Pep 10 live again and give us the inxi -Fxz info. Does the Pep 10 live memory boot up in UEFI mode?

Cool.
Is this what you're looking for? I just downloaded the appimage for QMplay2 and integrated it into my system, shows up under Multimedia. I have Appimage launcher installed already and it will integrate any appimage I want since I have clicked on "integrate into the system". Do you have Appimage launcher installed? If you can't find it in synaptic package manager, you can download it as a deb file.
Hello Sinux, could you please post your inxi -Fxz information?
Try installing the HP driver for Linux offered here: https://www.my-hpdrivers.com/2022/07/hp-laser-107a-driver.html
dxvk and dxvk-wine64-developement can be installed using synaptic package manager.
If you are planning on installing a cable to do this, install an HDMI cable instead.
Check out this instruction https://sourceforge.net/p/peppermintos/pepwiki/Swap%20File/
No experience with chromebooks but what I understand is it's pretty straight forward. I have seen where some have bought and installed a second hard drive, since yours is probably not replaceable, and installed into it. What are the things you don't understand? Maybe we can help with that.
Normally, a swap partition is created before installation while in the live version. You can still create one, same procedure, that is create a partition about twice the size of your ram memory, make it a primary partition and format it as linux-swap. If you are creating the partition after installation, as is your case, you will also have to include the partition information into /etc/fstab so that it's available on boot up. There is one more step, needed to activate the swap but I don't have experience...
Could you post your inxi -Fzx output please?
How about removing these and reposting them with the correct attitude?
This is a perfect example of why I use Timeshift. When things are running smooth, I'll take a snapshot of my system and if an update screws things up, I can restore to that last snapshot. Along with what razer said, it's also a good idea to have all your personal files in a DATA partition, and if you have to reinstall, everything is still there.
PepOS for the win!
Is there any way you can test your mouse on a different device? Watch this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2rHRi2ll9Q

Okay, great, thanks. The link has been posted.
There have been questions asked about PepOS, both debian and deuvian, end of life. I don't know how to answer that. Please give me an easy response.

Hi cam, the different sha512's are a result of the download iso's being upgraded occasionally. If one of the sha512's matches your results, then you're good to go.
Hi Rick Copple, I am pretty sure they are referring to adding the debian 11 testing repo. See this website if you want to add it. https://serverfault.com/questions/550855/how-to-add-debian-testing-repository-to-apt-get
I use Brave browser(set as default) because I don't want all the adds in Youtube. I installed Kumo and made a ssb of youtube, but when I launched it, and tried to play a video, I got a message that my browser wasn't supported. Clicking on okay, it reopened and then gave me a message that my browser is up to date and to browse youtube. Videos played but I get adds, bummer. I do have Chrome installed, so I think it just switched to Chrome.
I would say, If you have found and installed all the software you would normally use in Pep 10, investigate if these programs are available in Debian. Not everything is.
Memory flash, a while back, when I first tried to follow the directions of the post about installing Memory Updater, I kept getting an error, got it again today when trying it again, about ./pepbit.sh not being a command. Anyway, today, I did finally get it to install and all is good now. Thanks guys
Hmm, big difference, maybe my system isn't updated to the latest version?
@Peppermint OS, the way I read cavy's explanation, I understood there will be a "System Update" and a "Pep Tools Update" option individually. So if there are two separate options, that's what I'm talking about. I did install Update Manager when the instructions first came out.
Hi cavy, I don't have an "Update Pep Tools" option anywhere in Pep Hub.
I have the checksum for the 22-02-02 release, is that what you are looking for?

Try making a folder and putting all the deb files in it except 'dayplanner_0.12-1.1_all.deb'. Then left click on the file and select open in terminal. Then run sudo dpkg -i *.deb
I went down the list of dependencies and was finally able to install day planner. At least the installation completed, but, it won't open/launch. This is what happens when I try the terminal albert@albert-beta0129:~$ dayplanner Can't locate Glib.pm in @INC (you may need to install the Glib module) (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.28.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.28.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.28 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.28 /usr/share/perl/5.28...
I get the same when I try to install dayplanner using manuel rosa's method.
Okay, I now know that the eSCL option is from installing sane-airscan, very important. Printer is now working on the other computer.
Hi Rebecca, what software are you using to burn the iso file to the usb stick?
So, all the reading I've done suggests that hplip will not enable all printers in debian, but with the printer installed using the hplip backend, the printer will function. The drawback is that no printer information, ie ink levels, are available in hplip. I clicked on a button on the printer that looks like it might be an antenna, and enabled wifi. I don't have wifi in this computer but with the usb cable I think that was a bridge. The printer was printing before but was not scanning. After enabling...
Hi OldTon, I see the confusion, someone forgot to mention to close Gparted after creating the new MSDOS partition table and open Gnome Disks Utility tool.
I've been trying to install the latest version of hplip as a .run file. The installation process does not recognize my password when it asks for root/superuser password. I found a script that I think installs the file using python. Does this look right? https://fossies.org/linux/hplip/installer/text_install.py
The systemd service file included in the ipp-usb package starts the ipp-usb daemon when a USB-connected printer is plugged in, Didn't we dump systemd?
I think I found out what happened to Debian that screwed everything up. 2.2.2.1. CUPS and driverless printing Modern printers connected by ethernet or wireless can already use driverless printing, implemented via CUPS and cups-filters, as was described in the Release Notes for buster. Debian 11 “bullseye” brings the new package ipp-usb, which is recommended by cups-daemon and uses the vendor-neutral IPP-over-USB protocol supported by many modern printers. This allows a USB device to be treated as...

Hi KsWoodsMan, this is a usb connected printer.
I have an HP 3700 model printer scanner that I very seldom use to scan legal size documents. I had forgotten all about it when we were testing Pep 11 Alfas and Betas. Yesterday, I tried to use it in an older computer that has pep OS exclusively installed in it's hard drive. After installing the printer using HPLIP, I get a communications error code 5012. I searched for a solution but none of the suggested fixes worked. I ran 'hp-check -i' and got a bunch of errors, Almost all of them concerned packages...
Thanks cavy, that's exactly what was missing.
Great! Now please change the the topic to include SOLVED by clicking on the edit box.
Where is the 32 bit download link?
I think the command would be something like this: sudo flatpak uninstall xxxx xxxx being the app name. If you're not sure of the app's proper name, you can run; flatpak --list and get a list of the flatpaks you have installed.
Way to go KsWoodsMan!
Hi Klaus, you need to treat it as if you are booting a live version, that is, booting from a usb stick.
You need to be aware of kernel updates. With kernel updates, an update-grub occurs and that will cause the host computer's boot loader to be involved.
Hi Sidney, two things, number one, this post should have been listed under "Networking". Number two, can you connect to the internet via cable-to-modem or cell phone with internet? If your cell phone has internet, you can connect it with a usb cable. That would be a lot easier than trying to install from a usb memory stick.
Depending on which Acer Aspire laptop model you have, you may or may not be able to replace the CMOS battery.
NotionL, virtualbox-qt is in Synaptic Package Manager, you can install it there. Also, this is a Software problem, not an installation problem. Installation refers to installing the operating system into your computer.
