Sorry, that was more than 2 years ago, and I don't remember! There hasn't been any response - I probably lost interest. I don't seem to have anything to do with "navphp" on my computer now.

Have I missed something in the configuration? If I simply open files, they show correctly as the HTML source. But if I attempt HTML edit on them, they show as not found, because navphp (the directory containing the program) is inserted into the path.

Thanks for your help Ilia. It does seem rather a gotcha that freshly installed Webmin won't work because of the default to SSL and self signed certificate (assuming no other web server).

@Ilia Sorry I wasn't clear. The server is not running Apache or anything of that kind. SFAIK without a standard web server running, I have no control over HSTS. I haven't enabled or disabled it, it seems to default. The server is not a web server, and I don't want the extra complexities and vulnerabilities involved in running a regular web server. DNS verification for letsencrypt works, but is trickier to handle than the standard web verification.

Well, I have solved it for my server. I went back to SSL. To achieve that, I had to use the DNS verification method for the domain so as to create the necessary certificates using certbot (letsencrypt). Then combine the key and certificate into miniserv.pem. With SSL turned back on in miniserv.conf Webmin works normally. It seems as if there may be some messy problem relating to using Webmin without SSL, or that simply altering the single configuration option in miniserv.pem isn't enough. I don't...

Yes, I'm trying to connect with http:// and have tried using alternative browsers that have no cached information. (Personally, I've stopped using RedirectPermanent because of the browser problems). I can't use SSL because the browsers refuse to accept the self signed certificate because of HSTS. The server isn't running a web server at all, so I can't control that.

Thanks for the comments. It's the version in the repository. The details given by aptitude are: Package: webmin Version: 1.900 New: yes State: installed Automatically installed: no Priority: optional Section: admin Maintainer: Jamie Cameron jcameron@webmin.com Architecture: all Uncompressed Size: 173 M I believe that is the latest version. I tried adding forkcgis=1 but the browser still times out. I've also tried killing and restarting, but that makes no difference. There seem to have been a number...
