A simple outline functionality would be nice inside BibDesk.

So it would be possible to use the bibliography database directly during outlining. References could be inserted directly into the outline "document" and followed backward to their annotations in the BibDesk bibliography.

In additions keywords could be assigned to topics in the outline. And it would be possible to display papers according to keywords inside the outline.

This would fasten the process from the literature search with keywords to a hierarchic structure in the outline.

I am thinking of a simple Interface like in OmniOutliner (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnioutliner/), with a hierarchic structure for the outline itself. And a functionality to add notes and files to every entry. Style preferences like in OmniOutliner are not needed.

With a second view (the hierarchic view), this would be possible in BibDesk. And would ease the paper generation process a lot.

What do you think? Do you have know any alternatives?

I'm not really sure what the concrete request is, but it is almost impossible to have hierarchical structures in bibtex data. Moreover, this sounds really more like some kind of editor that /uses/ bibdesk, than functionality for a citation manager.
