Since bibdesk is useful for more than just bibliographies, it would be nice
to allow the displayed columns in the main viewing window to differ from
file to file. There could be one global set of columns, and a file-specific
override. Not all that critical, just a nice thing to have.

This is in th category of per-file preferences. We don't do
that, as we are based on the bibtex format, which doesn't
    have a place for that.

I doubt also for BibDesk 2, as it will be irrelevant,
because that will have more a single library approach.

In this case there is also a problem as it is not clear if
adding columns should be local or global.

If we drop Panther, we could store this in
xattrs, since it's not really critical data.

I too would like to see this feature. This change in itself could make BibDesk useable as a simple general MacOS DataBase application with a link to TeX/LaTeX for reporting. One example use I have is to define and maintain a database of service activity (Activity: Date, Level, Outcome, Note, Rank) info that can be exported (to LaTeX) to generate a final report.
