I run BibDesk Version 1.5.3 on a Mac OS X 10.5.8. I have been unable to edit any publication. Specifically, neither the hitting the 'edit' button nor double-clicking the publication record seems to pop up the editing window. I tried creating a new bibliography and adding a dummy (empty) publication record by hitting the 'new' button. When I try to edit this, nothing happens.
I don't see any problem, and AFAIK it also works for any other Leopard user. Is there any log in Console?
> Is there any log in Console?
Do you mean the error log? If so, not there isn't any message.
FWIW this is a recent development. Thanks for looking into this.
I mean a log from BibDesk in Console.app. Are you really sure there is no message there? It does sound like you have a problem on your system, I cannot see anything wrong, it works properly.
OK thanks. If there is anything I could try to get it working again, do let me know (I've already tried reinstalling BibDesk).
Forgot to add -- I don't see a message in Console.
I tried it again -- and I do see this in console...
BibDesk[182]: *** -[NSCFNumber length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x61a3c0
If there's no log and I cannot reproduce, there is really nothing I can say.
Do you get this console message any time when you try to show a publication window?
This is unfortunately a very difficult to figure out message, it's far too generic (439 times in the code).

window?
Yes -- I tried it with both a dummy record and my bib files. Neither pop up the edit window; and they throw the exception every time.
Thanks, I appreciate this!
Have you tried moving aside the preference file at ~/Library/Preferences/edu.ucsd.cs.mmccrack.bibdesk.plist (must do this while BibDesk is not running).
I tried it and it worked! Thanks so much! Was that file corrupted somehow -- is that what the problem was?
There must be a value that's set as a number that should be a string. Can you send this file to me?
Sure -- do I need to start a new thread to send you the file?
send it directly to me, you can use my sourceforge email address
