#411 PockePc as RED, need ipaq kernel module
I am trying to get my UTStarcom 6700 to work with IP Cop. It works with Fedora Core 7 using the ipaq.o module. I have tried to copy this file to my IP Cop, but am unable to get it to load. If you could include the ipaq module in the next release, I would be very happy. This driver also allows other PPC devices to connect, so I believe others would like this feature as well.

More like use the Pocket PC as the internet connection. I fix computers for a living and alot of my clients are still on dial-up. For the lucky ones with high-speed, I configure my firewall with 2 nics. For the dial-up users, I re-configure it for modem/dial-up access (it still has 2 nics though). This works great, but I have a PPC that can provide EV-Do access that would be faster than dial-up, although 1x is still a tad faster than dial-up as well.
I can use the PPC as a wireless modem for my laptop, and have got it to work with the Fedora Core 7 live cd. I have also noticed that Slax and other linux distros have the ipaq.o (sometimes ipaq.ko) module. When I connect the PPC, it tells me on the Alt-F12 screen that the USB device is detected, and the vendor and product ID's (these are the correct ones) but no active driver claims the device.
If you have a work around, that would be great :D

I have been doing a lot of research on this issue, and in the http://www.ipcops.com forums, have found some others that are looking for the same things.

I have tried to compile the nessary modules from the 2.4.34 kernel (from http://www.linuxhq.com/\) and I no longer get the "couldn't determine the kernel version module was compiled for" error. I now get alot of unresolved symbols. I don't think I am going to have much luck. I will keep trying though.

Hi,
Start compiling from the correct source, IPCop itself.
Install from cvs, build your iso to confirm you are ok.
Then edit ".config" sitted here:
youripcop-cvs/src/config/kernel.config.i386
Then find in build/lib/module....your ipaq.o.gz
Depending on its locaton, check that it is included
in final ISO: see in src/ROOTFILES.i386.
