I am a domestic violence victim. My abuser has
repeatedly infected my computer with trojans. Does
using TOR and Privoxy preclude web bugs and trojans
from infecting my computer when I go to web sites? If
not, then the web bug or trojan can read my IP address
and my word files the next time I log onto the
internet. This would foil privacy.

How to prevent web bugs from infecting my computer?
The anti trojan programs I use seem to only be able to
detect and remove them after they infect my computer.
They don't prevent the infection. They don't prevent
my abuser from ascertaining my IP address the next
time I log on.

An other website had a link to show what a website can
read. It stated: "your internal ip address if you use
a proxy." If this is true, using proxies would not
provide privacy. Can websites read through a proxy to
the user's real ip address?

they will still be able to get your IP because the proxy
will be running on your computer, If you keep gettings
infected from webpages I would suggest Using firefox.

So you are a "domestic violence victim" eh?? How is this relevant here? How can we even be sure you are telling the truth? Some people who claim to be victims of "domestic violence" are cheating, lying, slandering, backstabbing whores that manipulate people and provoke them to rage, then PRETEND to be the "victim."

This reminds me of an old girlfriend who was a closet prostitute. She lied constantly, and cheated every moment she was out of my sight. She screwed all my friends and business associates behind my back, and destroyed my life and career. She knew I would have a good reason to be mad at her, if I ever found out just how much she had played me for a fool. Because of this, she EXPECTED that everything bad which happened to her computer must have come from me, because that is what she DESERVED. I didn't do anything, but she slandered me all over town anyway because she had convinced herself that all the crap she picked up on the web, and from her other "boyfriends" must have come from me. Stupid bitch.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about, if you think "web bugs" are trojans. 95% of the people I've met have crapware on their PC which they picked up while surfing. What makes you think you could tell the difference between something a friend or relative did, and something you did to yourself out of sheer ignorance?

Privoxy enhances your level of privacy,
but doesn't magically secure your computer.

Using Privoxy and Tor is a start,
but you still have to check the configuration
of your operating system and the rest of
the programs that have access to the net.

If you allow websites to execute code
on your system, you are better of assuming
that they find ways to get hold of your
IP address, even if you use Tor.

If you don't want to spend the time to
learn how to secure your system, you should
consider running your operating system from
    a LiveCD.

    There are LiveCDs available that
already ship with Tor and Privoxy preconfigured,
Anonym.OS is one of them. Note that the current
version ships with a weak Firefox configuration
    and "interesting" Privoxy settings.
