Summary:
Reducing and then increasing segment size
behaves differently depending on if you work from the left,
or the right.
To recreate:
Create a small segment containing notes throughout.
Select resize.
From the LEFT of the segment, resize smaller, release, and
then resize back to its original size.
Observe that the notes in the area which was "deleted" by
the original "resize smaller" have disappeared.
Revert back to the fullsize segment prior to the above
test.
Now resize smaller from the RIGHT and release.
Observe that the white "trail" of notes isn't completely
removed, but the notes aren't showing when you go into
notation editor or event list editor, and aren't saved
on file.
Now resize back to the original size.
The notes"deleted" by the "resize smaller" reappear.
I've attached the small file used to test this.

Mostly behaviour biy design - see comment in 1184543.
The issue of the white "trail" of notes is probably a (low
priority) issue.

Guillaume fixed this in the course of addressing another complaint,
and the rest of the original report was indeed behavior by design.
Marking as fixed. I'll close it after a bit if the original submitter doesn't
do it before the next time I'm playing with the tracker.
