On the MacOS MacBook touchpad one can scroll with 2 fingers vertically and horizintally. jEdit interprets horizontal scrolling as "fast-scroll up/down". If one wants to slow-scroll down and moves the fingers accidentally a bit sideways in the process the screen fast-scrolls and one looses focus on the code. MacOS MacBook touchpad would need the option to disable this horizontal scrolling behavior.

This is not just a touchpad problem. It happens with a normal mouse as well (in my case a Mac Mighty Mouse). Any slight horizontal scroll causes the vertical scroll to scroll stupidly fast, which is VERY annoying!

Surely the issue is that jEdit doesn't have support for horizontal scrolling? A feature which would be really good to have anyway, and it would have the side effect of fixing this bug. Woo!! Let's get us some horizontal scrolling! Pleeease.

Does anyone know how horizontal scrolling works in windows? Natively or as on mac?

I am thinking of removing the shift+scroll feature since I know of noone who uses it and it only annoys Mac users, but then again - I'm a mac user and all the businesses I work with are, so I'm not the best one to evaluate this.

    Best regards

Closing. I've implemented this in rev. 14664. Try it out if you can.
