Wouldn't it be good to introduce/use in the first example of 11.1. Digital Facsimiles the element <facsimile> and let @facs point to any graphic? Or supply more examples for the use of @facs? Otherwise the following examples are less understandable. No other example uses <facsimile>, a <graphic> or <surface> and any element using @facs.

    I can supply some real-world examples; the difficulty is making them compact enough to be practical in the guidelines.

    Thinking about this, I'm not sure the primary example should show @facs on <facsimile> pointing to an image. If you're using <facsimile> (as opposed to just pointing to images from pb/@facs, as in the example), you're far more likely to be using one or more child <surface> elements, with a <graphic> inside it, aren't you?

    I'm closing this ticket on the basis that the major revisions to chapter 11 incorporate more extensive examples of the use of <facsimile> and related elements. The new revision of the chapter has had several rewrites, and will get quite a lot of attention after release, so if Torsten still feels his use-case has not been adequately exemplified, a new ticket can be opened.
