I have set up a Ubuntu system to authenticate via a Samba server using winbind. This works when using a text terminal to log in. However, on the LXD graphic log in, it fails without any error message, just looping round to ask again for the user name.
I have enabled debug in /etc/pam.d/lxdm for various modules, but have not seen any entry in the logs from failed log-in attempts.

Software installed according to dpkg.log is
lxdm 0.2.0~svn2307+git20100408-0ubuntu1
lxde-core 0.5.0-3ubuntu2
lxde-common 0.5.0-3ubuntu2

I may have some things incorrectly set up - on a text screen winbind login, it fails to cd to the home directory, although the directory is automatically created.

Same case with nis login as well.

My system is a nis client. i'm able to login the system from command line. But lxdm doesn't let me login. Everytime I enter username/password, the screen blinks for a second and again the login screen is displayed.

gdm, kdm, wdm, xdm all work fine

    try the git version.

and where I can download the lxdm 0.2.0~svn2307+git20100408-0ubuntu1, at
    http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/packages/show/176698
    I don't find a link.

And default lxdm's pam config is very simple, no winbind there, packager or user should do it self.

    Same with likewise-open5.4.
