If a series rename would create a series with a name identical to an existing series, the editor should be warned before the submission is processed. Alternatively, the system might simply refuse to submit such changes and display a proper error message instead. Duplicate series, once created are a problem, and are rarely if ever the intended result. -DES

I think this should result in an error message rather than a warning. Duplicate series names ara a Bad Thing (TM) in my experience.
I see no problems in having a bunch of sereis all named "To be reused" or the like, and it might be that in the process of flipping the names of series A & B there would be a moment when they would have identical names. But both of thsoe could be worked around if need be, and in any normal case two series with duplicate names shouldn't be permitted. -DES

Done in edit/submitseries.py 1.6 by disallowing duplicate series names.
Version 1.6 of edit/submitseries.py superseded by version 1.7. Implemented in r2009-21.
