When a user searches for an Author string, e.g. "Heinlein", the resulting list doesn't tell him which records are marked as pseudonyms, so there is no easy way of telling whether the user should select "R. A. Heinlein", "Robert A. Heinlein" or "Robert Heinlein". In some cases this information can be derived by checking which record has additional information (e.g. dates) displayed, but it's not reliable.
