I have given the slipper to the queen, the skull to the king, been asked by both of them to compete and also by the butterfly, but am still unable to enter battlefield.

This seems to be a bug in the scripts that don't like you still having the wand when talking to the butterfly.
Giving the wand back to the buffoon and then talking to the butterfly again lets you enter the battlefield.
