Traders and crypto users looking for a social blockchain solution that rewards them for sharing content

About Steem

Steem is a social blockchain that grows communities and makes immediate revenue streams possible for users by rewarding them for sharing content. It’s currently the only blockchain that can power real applications via social apps like Steemit. Shareholders of social media platforms made billions of dollars from user-generated content. Steem flips the model and returns the value to the people who contribute the most. Users become platform stakeholders, maintaining control over their data, and earning cryptocurrency rewards for each contribution they make. Unlike most blockchains that are too slow and expensive to be used for apps, Steem is fast, free, and scalable. Intelligent bandwidth allocation enables free transactions. The only blockchain that can handle social applications at scale. Steem processes more transactions than Bitcoin and Ethereum. It’s already used by over 1 million people on more than 324 Steem-based apps.

"Avoid it, use fork - Hive."

    Posted 2023-10-17

Pros: It was great when it started in 2016, engaged community and developers, but that was before hostile takeover by Sun / TRON in 2020.

Cons: After hostile takeover: centralized, corrupted governance, censorship, thieves and frauds. No development since takeover (2020), all core developers moved out to different projects, including fork of Steem called Hive.

Overall: Avoid it. Use Hive that is a fork made by former developers of Steem and is continuously improved ever since.

    "Backend to SteemIt"

    Edited 2022-03-30

Pros: • Content is kept on the blockchain can't be deleted.
    • Own cryptocurrency with no transaction fees.
    • Community driven through elected witnesses.
    • Open Source.

Cons: • Whales dominate the blockchain trough the delegated proof of stake.

Overall: Steem is not a social media site in itself but the blockchain based backend for the SteemIt social media as well the the original blockchain for the Hive and Blurt fork.
