"Snowflake is unique, fast and efficient data warehouse tool. Impressive data retrieval and data compression ratio!"

    Posted 2021-06-20

Pros: Snowflake is being used across our whole organization. It addresses the need to combine disparate data sources into one single data source and discover insights into our business that would not be easily possible with lots of disconnected data sources.
It has great SQL features like LISTAGG or Count Distinct, which go above and beyond Oracle and MS SQL.

    - Reporting queries run in a fraction of the time that they would in our production systems
    - We can run simple SQL queries.
    - Scales up and down seamlessly
    - Optimized table structures under the hood
    - Sharing data between accounts
    - Easy if use
    - Continuous data pipelines
    - Snowflake also includes caching at various levels to help speed up your queries and minimum costs.
    - Support members are very good.

Cons: Nothing to dislike in Snowflake. Awesome data warehouse for huge data set.

Overall: Snowflake is great for storing data and using it as an endpoint to query off of. It is cloud-based so the it can be scaled to any business need. It is great for analytics as well as simply storing data.
Snowflake is well suited for performing data ETL when data is stored in AWS S3 and one needs fine control over instance costs.

    - Performance is extremely fast
    - Great documentation
    - Pay for what you use
    - You only pay for the resources when you are using them
    - Native Apache Spark connector
    - Simple and pleasant User Interface

"Managing data warehouse with Snowflake is amazing! It's a future full stack database."

    Posted 2021-06-18

Pros: Snowflake is acting as a company-wide Data Repository. With its cloud architecture and scalability, it addresses our storage, warehouse, and computation problem at the same time. Snowflake has powerful group roles and policy, which makes it beneficial for enterprise edition and usage.

Snowflake acts as a single platform for both data storage and warehousing needs. For deployment purposes, it has the best group policy management and the best UI I've encountered personally. It also accommodates direct connection with AWS and Azure, which is another advantage.

    - Hosted on cloud: Helps with scalability.
    - Handling large data scale and ingestion
    - Separation of compute and storage
    - Community is active and ever-growing: You will have someone from the community to help whenever you need it.

    Cons: - Very expensive
    - Indexing by primary key is non performant

Overall: Snowflake is suitable for the situations that you are working with all levels of analysts in terms of data science skills. By using SQL, the user does not need to understand data type, etc. before using the tool.

It works extremely well for storing a data warehouse as the querying is optimized for larger tables that are filled in batches. It also works extremely well with unstructured data and has basically replaced any need we previously had for NoSQL databases

    - It can now sit on Google Cloud, S3, and Azure.
    - Zero-copy cloning is an excellent feature which saves hours to refresh latest data in development instance.
    - Well suited when handling high volume of data.
    - In the cloud computing. Quick availability of data online.

Pros: Nice for scaling as a business grows with pay as you go functionality. Cloud based database platforms provide easy to access data.

Cons: Large queries run slowly on web database. Performance slows considerably with simultaneous use.

Overall: Provides great flexibility and accessibility of data for a variety of different business uses. Very affordable for a small business.
