"Patreon" Posted 2022-07-12
Pros: The freeware organization I work with utilizes Patreon as the main processing system for donations. Patreon has multiple ways to have projects charge users for subscriptions which is nice for varying types of projects. The integration with other applications, especially Discord is great and provides a nice perk for subscribers to our project with minimal work on our part. The fee structure is also fair in my opinion.
Cons: I have very little complaints with Patreon, the fee structures I find fair, the integration with other financial institutions is solid. There is sometimes some minor issues with the Discord integration is my only minor complaint.
Overall: While I do not run the financial aspect of the development team, I was the one who initially setup the Patreon for the project a few years back. If you are looking to raise money for hobby interests and freeware projects, it is a great tool to utilize for such. The integration with other apps such as Discord for subscriber benefits is a great touch as well and simplifies the process for the projects staff to not have to verify users' actual proof of subscription.
