Based on the software "Toonz", developed by Digital Video S.p.A. in Italy, OpenToonz has been customized by Studio Ghibli, and used for the creation of its works for many years. Dwango has launched the OpenToonz project in cooperation with Digital Video and Studio Ghibli. OpenToonz can be used free of charge for both commercial and non-commercial projects. Available as an open-source so that anyone can modify its source code freely. We aim to develop a new platform for connecting the academic research with cutting edge animation production.

    Pros: Works fine for animation, you can draw and the tools are decently understandable. It works. You'll make what you wanna make.

    Cons: You cant have layers, fps alters every part of your animation, you cant decide what color or opacity you want your brush to be, only a whole layer, there is no autosaves or backup saves, brushes, undos, etc. all lag behind your movements horribly.

    Overall: Absolutely horrid. Took me an hour to get a hang of the software, just to lose ~8 hours of work because it crashed while I was working on it, and the last time i had saved it was before the drawing session. I had to make so many compromises because of its inadequate tools.

    Pros: Animation, EVEN THOUGH IT TOOK A MILLION YEARS TO DRAW SOMETHING TO ANIMATE. so pretty much nothing

    PLEASE I AM A ZELDA FAN WHO WANTS TO ANIMATE! IT IS MY DREAM! But OpenToonz ruins it all. destroys dreams, destroys the life of my Linkle.

    Cons: Everything else. ruins my drawings when i work on them. crashes and deletes my work.

    Overall: I was working on an animation for YouTube about Zelda. when i was drawing linkle it just RUINED her. i don't know why. and i press the undo button but it didn't fix it. i want to make a link's awakening movie but it ruins EVERYTHING. I am new to animation and i want to learn, but all the animators cost so much. i hate OpenToonz. very much. zero stars. if it wasn't so glitchy i would love it. i do not recommend it. you'll be making an animation you have been working on forever, but OpenToonz will ruin it. not worth it.

    Pros: Best software I ever found. Very easy to use. And when i had a question, Rodney replied me very fast.

    Cons: Nothing. I like everything about it. It made everything very easy.

    Overall: Great software. I never animated before. But OpenToonz made my dream come true. Thank you OpenToonz team.
