"TOTP and HOTP based 2nd step authentication " Edited 2020-07-13
Pros: Google Authenticator is a nifty tool developed by google which provides 2nd step authentication to all the supported services. It provides generally 6 digit OTP which is generated based on time and thus doesn't require Internet to work. All the generated OTPs are refreshed every 30 seconds.
Cons: It's a great tool to secure all the google services tools from intruders.
Overall: Google Authenticator is very simple yet increases the security of setup services to many fold. It works on Time based OTPs and HMAC based OTPs. It is simple to set up and is one time process. It doesn't require any type of active connection once it is set up increasing the flexibility of the service. It has android, iOS app available in the app store. There are many plugins available to setup with the WordPress website, which when installed, logging in requires you to enter the Authenticator otp, which secures the websites. It can be used to protect all your google service by proving the 2nd factor authentication.

"Projects from account hijacking " Edited 2020-07-01
Pros: Google works offline. It takes a few seconds to scan and add a new account. The device can also be changed but you need to scan from an older device.
Cons: Google Authenticator worked great. The only con I faced is device switching difficulty.
Overall: Complex Account passwords are not enough for securing accounts. 2FA is the best option to protect the account from hijacking. I use Google Authenticator and was surprised by its security. On every login you need to put offline code generated on an authenticator app.

"Authenticator - Review" Posted 2020-06-13
Pros: (+) Easy to use and setup.
(+) 2-factor authentication improving security for your data by providing an extra layer of security.
(+) It can be used with multiple accounts also.
(+) Works real fast, use codes, and logging in every time is very seamless.
(+) Easy to manage multiple accounts.Cons: (-) The design is not very appealing, can be better.
(-) In the case of the lost phone, there might be a problem while logging, better to set up backup options.
(-) Instead of verification code, it is better to have a push notification feature so that logging in becomes more seamless.
(-) If you do not have your phone handy with you, you will have to face some problems logging in.Overall: Google authenticator is a very application that provides that extra layer of security to all your accounts at zero cost. The setup is really easy you just have to avail the option in your Gmail and the 2 step authentication is one. The codes can be accessed via SMS or application. Application is more preferred, there is no delay in the realtime logging-in scenario. It is definitely a good recommendation taking in the modern-day security concerns.

"Make sure you safely store your keys in case your device dies" Posted 2020-06-08
Pros: I love the UI of Google Authenticator. Clear, easy to read, with an intuitive rotating / decreasing circular icon to indicate how long til the current code expires and is replaced with the next one. Easy access to all your authenticator codes on the same screen. Ability to store multiple codes for the same service, as long as it's different accounts.
Cons: My phone died (bootloop issue...) and made it so I couldn't use my two factor accounts for almost a year. It's my fault though, I should have stored the backup keys safely and that would have allowed me to create a new two factor device, probably.
Overall: So easy to use, much less hassle than other two factor systems. Supported by a wide range of services too!
