NHS health and social care systems in England that need secure, real-time access to patients’ GP clinical records and appointment data across different electronic systems at the point of care
About GP Connect
GP Connect is an NHS Digital interoperability service that enables authorized clinicians and care professionals to securely access and share patient information held in GP practice clinical IT systems across health and social care settings so patient care can be safer, faster, and better coordinated without chasing paper or manual phone calls. It exposes APIs that let approved applications retrieve up-to-date clinical records, view documented encounters, medications, immunizations, and problem lists, and manage appointments and referrals without separate logins, bringing GP record data directly into systems used in hospitals, urgent care, community services, pharmacies, and social care. It operates as an intermediary between GP practice systems (the providers) and consumer health/care applications so that patient data is shared only for direct care purposes under role-based access controls and data sharing agreements with audit trails and governance built in.
