About

TidyTabs is a tool that brings tabbed browsing to all of your programs. If you ever wanted to have Chrome-style tabs in Windows Explorer, Microsoft Office, or PuTTY, TidyTabs does just that. It integrates nicely with the OS and you will feel like the multi-tab functionality is a core part of Windows. Organize your windows and free up space on your desktop. Now that all your windows have a draggable tab, you can easily organize them into logically related groups. Just drag one tab onto another and create a tabbed group. Tabs can be detached from a group and inserted into another one. You can even group windows from different applications together. With one click, save a group so that your applications are automatically grouped and placed as you wish the next time you open them. Or define advanced auto-grouping rules for the most complex scenarios. It takes just a few minutes to fully automate your tab management.

About

WindowManager helps you to improve your workflow by remembering and restoring the position and size of your programs and windows. Many programs don't remember their position and size between sessions and even Windows Explorer does not restore Windows to their last position under Windows 7 or higher. This is where WindowManager steps in and makes sure your windows are placed exactly where you want them every time you open them. WindowManager even allows you to lock the position and size of any window, so that it will always open at the same spot no matter where you move it. The window handling is fully customizable and you can set up special rules for your favorite or most frequently used windows. You can also make WindowManager send keystrokes or mouse clicks to a program when its window is opened, run additional programs, and other advanced actions. With WindowManager, you can also minimize most windows in the system tray.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Windows 11 does not like it when you make windows flush with the edge of the screen or flush against the taskbar. If you do and it is a UWP app, it will maximize the UWP window the next that you open it. Even though the window was never maximized and only took half the screen before you closed it. If you have windows flush against the edge of your screen and taskbar and the computer goes to sleep or you close your laptop lid, when your computer is awake again, there will be huge gaps between the window and the edges and taskbar. No one asked for a Windows that doesn't remember the window sizes and positions. If you place the Task Manager window against the edge of the screen, it auto moves itself to the adjacent desktop screen for no reason at all. These frustrations make Windows 11 completely unusable for me. But this WindowManager program saved me and made Windows 11 usable for me. Not only that, with Windows 11 sleek borders and rounded corners and newer looking UI, Windows 11 PLUS WindowManager is much better looking that Windows 10. But without WindowManager, Windows 11 would be worse than XP because it can't even function right and remember window sizes and positions. Not only does WindowManager save Windows 11 for me and make it useable, but it helps with other problems as well. Most Unreal Engine game windows resize themselves to a supported resolution whenever there is a cutscene, a setting in the Settings Menu is changed or saved, or a new map area loads. WindowManager will make it so that the window reverts back to the size that YOU want. WindowManager also has some built in tools that are useful for like toggling a window's state to Always on Top or toggling partial or full transparency on a window. This program was worth every penny. I even paid extra for free lifetime updates, because it was worth it. It starts with a 30 days trial but after spending several days setting up my computer after a reformat and update from W10 to W11, I just went ahead and bought it.

Cons

  • It is around 98% perfect, but it is not 100% perfect. I often notice a 1px gap around windows that shouldn't be there because I had them set up to be flush against the taskbar or edges of screen. But nothing will get rid of the 1px gap. And if I close my laptop lid, then the windows revert back to Windows 11 behavior and are no longer flush against the taskbar and edges and will have large gaps all around the window. So to fix it, I use a macro to resize the windows. Or I could just close them and then open them and let WindowManager do its work. But when I don't open or close my laptop lid or let my computer fall asleep, WindowManager always does its work and remembers the window size and position that I want when I open the program.
