About

WhitelistVideo is a parental control solution for their children's YouTube experience. Parents create a whitelist of approved channels—kids can only watch content from those channels, nothing else. The platform features AI-powered analysis that automatically evaluates new videos against parent-approved categories, enabling real-time automated approvals as well. Parents can also set blacklisted keywords to automatically remove inappropriate content from search results and recommendations. The solution includes a browser extension, parent dashboard (mobile app and web), and desktop installers for Windows and macOS. Designed for parents of children ages 8-15, WhitelistVideo eliminates algorithmic recommendations, autoplay surprises, and inappropriate content discoveries while maintaining age-appropriate viewing.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • The shared parent dashboard makes it easy for both parents to manage approved channels. Changes sync across devices quickly.
  • I like having complete control over what my children can watch. Blocking recommendations and unwanted content makes YouTube much safer.
  • The Chrome extension is easy to manage across devices and keeps students focused on educational content. It works reliably and blocks unnecessary distractions.
  • The interface is simple and easy for children to use. Only approved videos are visible, making it easy to keep children safe online.
  • The Android TV version is very reliable and only displays approved content. It prevents children from opening unrelated videos or falling into endless recommendations.

Cons

  • There can be a short delay when updates sync over different Wi-Fi networks, but it is not a major issue.
  • Finding quality channels to approve takes some time, but once the list is created the experience is excellent.
  • A bulk import option for channels would make setup even faster, although adding channels manually is still manageable.
  • Sometimes new educational videos need to be approved before they become available, but this keeps the viewing experience secure.
  • Sometimes newly added channels take a short time to sync with the TV, but they appear correctly after a brief wait.
