About

Neutralizer is an equalizer made with sound restoration in mind, contrary to many other products that offer ready-made profiles for sound distortion. Everybody is different and everybody’s hearing is different. You have to test your hearing on devices that take an active part in sound reproduction in order to be sure that any adjustments you make will work for you. We offer a simple-to-use interface that needs very little explanation. It is self-explanatory, and it is elegant. If you would like to improve your listening experience on a mobile device, you would mostly come to the conclusion that you need better hardware. Although in most situations it might be true you don’t always know why. This is because of so many parameters you have to take into account like the digital-to-analog conversion, the signal frequency range, the amplification path, the speaker's (or headphones) frequency response, the psychoacoustic, and so on.

About

StaffPad is an award-winning music notation app, designed for pen and touch, and built for composers. StaffPad lets you effortlessly write music in your own handwriting, edit with the convenience of touch, and hear your score played back with breathtakingly realistic sounds. StaffPad Reader is made for musicians. It's a free app that connects to StaffPad, and displays the individual parts of a StaffPad Score, in real time, across multiple devices. Any changes made to the score in StaffPad update instantly on every connected Reader. Annotations and playback work in perfect sync, all you need is a simple Wi-Fi connection. Together, they form an extremely elegant, intuitive and powerful platform for composition and live performance. StaffPad's unique algorithms convert your handwritten notation into a beautifully typeset score. It'll even help you by automatically correcting your stem directions, adding courtesy accidentals and highlighting when there's too many, or too few, beats.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It is helpful to hear music that I am trying to learn. It is easy to write score. The lasso feature is great. The StaffPad reader is nice.
  • Easy to use and nice connection to StaffPad reader. Good playback features. It also has good online tutorials.
  • I am a long time Finale user (20years) and am quite adept at the keyboard and number pad input methods. StaffPad is refreshing in its ability to input similar detail via handwriting recognition. If you have ever hand written a composition using a chisel point pen (calligraphy) the input method for StaffPad makes perfect sense. Angled strokes for note heads, stems and flags instead of circles and such (pencil style) are easily converted into engraved font musical notation without much of a learning curve. Articulation and dynamics follow suit. Score directions have a sub menu that is direction sensitive, but certainly not onerous. It truly shines as educational software when coupled with a large touch screen tv (standard in many schools as the 'main learning display') where the legacy pen input allows a larger view for students to input their scores, and adjust pitches by holding a note head with the pen. This allows the student to audiate (sing in their head) and have the pitches confirmed by the software. This cannot be underestimated in eartraining for student musicians. They then transfer this to their paper drafts and then more competently reapply it to the software, due to the tactile pen input.
  • It's silky smooth for hand-writing music with the Surface pen on the screen. That's why I bought it and that's why I wanted to love it, but couldn't. It's affordable and has some incredible features like auditory recognition of a played tune that then appears as a score. It could be and should be terrific software, but for the interface, which I found utterly baffling.

Cons

  • Not all of the functionalities work. I can’t get all of the clave hits to play on a piece that has 3 staffs. It says you can change the duration of a note by sliding right or left. That doesn’t work.
  • Technical support has been terrible. Had I known this I would have never purchased. I have sent them questions and they never respond. StaffPad is on my wife’s IPAD. I give them both of our email addresses and I have posed the question about the clave several times and they simple won’t respond. I had other questions in the past for which no one responds. A real bummer. If you need supportive technical support, don’t buy StaffPad.
  • There are a large number of sound suites available for free in the software but, sadly, the presence of in app purchasing of even better sounds, in part, prevents many state education department's from allowing the software to be purchased for schools. This means the excellent companion software for transmitting individual player parts to tablets enabling the software to be used in realtime for ensemble rehearsals is also not available for implementation in schools. Scores can be edited in realtime and the edits appear in the individual player's parts, on their tablet, in real time. Not a problem with the software, but an issue with the delivery of the product that stops it from meeting its potential.
  • The aesthetically pleasing interface has nearly everything hidden. Even where to save your score is an unnecessary mystery. That's not "intuitive" or "simple," that's bad design. The documentation is little help as it is impossible to navigate. there's time-wasting tutorials but the learning curve is severe. After many hours of work disappeared one day as I tried to change instrumentation, I said "Nevermore."
