About

Kasm Workspaces streams your workplace environment directly to your web browser…on any device and from any location. Kasm uses our high-performance streaming and secure isolation technology to provide web-native Desktop as a Service (DaaS), application streaming, and secure/private web browsing. Kasm is not just a service; it is a highly configurable platform with a robust developer API and devops-enabled workflows that can be customized for your use-case, at any scale. Workspaces can be deployed in the cloud (Public or Private), on-premise (Including Air-Gapped Networks or your Homelab), or in a hybrid configuration.

About

Portainer is an intuitive container management platform for Docker, Kubernetes, and Edge-based environments. With a smart UI, Portainer enables you to build, deploy, manage, and secure your containerized environments with ease. It makes container adoption easier for the whole team and reduces time-to-value on Kubernetes and Docker/Swarm. With a simple GUI and a comprehensive API, the product makes it easy for engineers to deploy and manage container-based apps, triage issues, automate CI/CD workflows and set up CaaS (container-as-a-service) environments regardless of hosting environment or K8s distro. Portainer Business is designed to be used in a team environment with multiple users and clusters. The product includes a range of security features, including RBAC, OAuth integration, and logging - making it suitable for use in complex production environments. Portainer also allows you to set up GitOps automation for deployment of your apps to Docker and K8s based on Git repos.

Pros from Real Users

Pros

  • It can be used as a virtual lab where you can experiment a lot of things without worrying for the security or integrity of the system. When working in cybersecurity it's really great thing to have the possibility to launch a new and fresh desktop session of Kali Linux or Parrot OS, you don't need to install it anymore or run virtual machines, and the fact that those sessions are throwable is very useful for pentesting environment. Also, the fact that all of this work in the browser make it very versatile to be able to work anywhere even if you're not on your own computer, you can retrieve your personal desktop session in the cloud, and you can also use it to bypass network firewall at school or work.
  • Setup was very easy. I was looking for a disposable desktop and Kasm was the first I tried. I never explored other options since Kasm was exactly what I was looking for.
  • - Zero Setup, it was instant - The needed Images for all software i need (mainly browsers) - Ease of Use
  • Ease of use: The platform is intuitive and easy to navigate, with a clean and modern interface. This makes it simple for team members to access and work on their files and projects from any location.
  • Accessibility: An emulator allows you to access an operating system from any device with a browser, which can be convenient if you need to use specific software or access specific files that are only available on a particular operating system. Allows you to use software or access files that are not compatible with your current operating system. Can be a quick and easy way to access an operating system without having to install it on your device.
  • One of the main benefits of Kasm is improved security. By isolating older, potentially insecure versions of browsers and plugins in virtualized environments, it helps to protect the rest of the system from potential vulnerabilities.
  • Supports multiple browsers, including Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Allows users to run multiple versions of each browser on the same machine. Provides a user-friendly interface for configuring and managing browser settings. Improves security by isolating older, potentially insecure versions of browsers and plugins from the rest of the system.
  • Ease of use, great functionality and straightforward setup. The ui is very easy to use, modules are easy to install and security it well designed.
  • Easy to use and works pretty well has a nice user interface and doesn't require much knowledge to use.
  • it is pretty easy to use. as everything is significantly configurable and that it only takes a few clicks to get the VM ready for you and it brings a free trial so you can experiment with all the options with Kasm.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Portainer ensures secure delivery of containers and reliability while tracking the managed containers. I like the fact it offers free 5 nodes for the Business Edition to allow, the developers to test Portainer before making a move. The speed at which it operates while uploading images and management of projects. It is easy to master because of its intuitive design (UI). It is also easy to understand docker, containers, and Kubernetes if you are new to the cloud.
  • With the Portainer Business version you have the ability to manage your container cluster like never before, it allows you to use very advanced features such as RBAC to control the roles of Kubernetes nodes, it also allows you to use Helm Charts that makes the deployment of container images very fast, also the option of higher levels of authentication such as oAuth, authentication connecting your Active Directory server for greater robust security.

Cons

  • So far I haven't experienced any setback so far for performance.
  • Using Portainer for more than two years I have not found any difficulties of use, on the contrary it has facilitated my day to day in my DevOps area.
