If you feel that your personal finance require additional level of security, there is plenty of solutions to encrypt data on a computer (TrueCrypt, PGP, native windows bitlocker) for that purpose. A financial application should manage finance data, and a security program should deal with security. Any software must have some scope limits. I think it is better to use external proven and reliable solutions than implement a smokescreen, as the file format used for HomeBank to store data is a simple xml file (so text file), you can review with a txt editor. Adding to this, I do think it make sense and it is more convenient to protect data globally on a computer, instead of being annoyed to fill in a password every time you open a file with an application, your session password and a truly global protection system on your computer. 	Pros & Cons from Real Users Pros Easy installation. Collaborate with bookkeeper/CPA. Lots of features. Quicken helps manage my cash inflow and outflow and makes taxes and money management very easy with the click of a mouse. Simplifying our money management means we run into less budgetary problems. Ability to manage personal finances is good. Downloads and data entry is simple. Provides a good overview of your financial position(s). Great interface & dashboard Track investments View and Manage bills & spendings with categorization Budget planner 5 GB storage on Dropbox Free trial Affordable plans User friendly from day one The developers are Always looking to improve the product. I like that they went out with courage and are a stand alone product now. Cons Nothing. The amount of data we can pull can become cumbersome because there is analysis paralysis at times. Reporting is difficult, prices would be expected to continue to rise, and data is not completely maintained on my personal equipment possibly exposing it to security issues. The mobile app is not standalone version and requires to sync with desktop software. Limited bill payment options. Went from one time buying the software to the industry-wide norm of a monthly/annual fee instead... I guess it allows them to continually improved and sporadically share improvements instead of waiting for new releases..
