About

GnomeOwner is HOA management software for self-managed HOA and condo boards. It collects dues online (residents never pay a fee), answers questions from your own governing documents with the section cited, and tracks state-law compliance deadlines. Free to start; paid plans from $29/month. Boards also get document storage, an owners and units roster, resident notices by email or paper mail, and a resident portal for payments. The compliance calendar covers all 50 states, with every deadline tied to its statute. Money goes straight to the association's own Stripe account; GnomeOwner never holds it.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • There is almost nothing positive to say about this application. I am only writing in the pros line because this site forces me too.
  • Nothing to like here. No pros except cheap price to our management company.
  • Nothing. The negative outweighs the positive that it doesn't matter anymore. It is actually ONLY good for making payments! And not for communications on the forum.
  • NONE.
  • TownSq is not difficult to use. Based on feedback from our community management company who brought Town Square in for our community to use, it is not customizable. What you see is what you get.

Cons

  • The website is not functional, hyperlinks dont actually work. Lazy coding, GUI that is trash, app that adds zero value. They probably sold this as a PaaS with good management visibility but terrible for end users.
  • Terrible product. Forum entries are not sorted by category. Not customizable, not user friendly. Usefulness is very limited. Even document storage is poor. If you use the app on your phone, documents cannot be enlarged for reading. I am a competent, tech savvy user, so that's not the issue. Folks with very basic skills are absolutely unable to use it. The faster our HOA dumps this product, the happier our community will be. We are in a 1100 house community. Do not waste your time with this inferior program.
  • - you as a user cannot delete or edit your messages - while the administrator, the board of directors or property manager can remove any and all your messages if they don't like what you post. - documents and folders disappear from time to time and you have to log off and logging back again to confirm that what you see is reflecting the reality - the website and mobile interfaces are different, which makes it very confusing while switching between the systems - if a message has comments, you cannot see them right under unless you press a small button see the comments. - lack of ability to send a message to a community member
  • They do not listen to their customers. They do not allow users to edit or delete their own posts to the forum or requests. If you make a mistake in your post you cannot go back and correct it once you post it to the forum.
  • My major problem with TownSq is that when a "request" is posted I only have visibility to MY requests. I can't see what other community members might have posted. This is a weakness in that there is no way to see which requests are placed for the same things.
