About

Fender Notion is a music notation and composition application that enables musicians to create, edit, play back, and share musical scores. The software supports standard sheet music notation, guitar tablature, percussion notation, and arrangements for multiple instruments. Users can enter notes through an interactive piano keyboard, guitar fretboard, drum pad, or supported MIDI input devices. Its playback engine uses sampled instruments, including orchestral recordings performed by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. Fender Notion provides tools for adding chord symbols, articulations, dynamics, lyrics, and other musical markings to compositions. The application supports wireless score transfers between compatible devices and integrates with Fender Studio Pro for exchanging musical notation and MIDI data.

About

Step-time and real-time MIDI input, and a built-in virtual piano keyboard. Or type the notes in, or click with the mouse. Transpose a selected passage to any key, or by any interval—or even transpose diatonically within the same key. Multiple tab styles available—from note symbols outside the staff to upside-down strings—and linked standard/tab staff pairs. MuseScore can now open files from Guitar Pro, so you can easily migrate over. Import filters are improving with every release. Any change you make to the content of any part is immediately reflected in the full score—and vice versa. Instantly switch between transposed and concert pitch. Sounding pitches stay the same while the written notes change. Focus on the content, undistracted by line breaks or page breaks. Switch to Page View to polish up for printing.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I could have given this app 5 stars, until they updated to Notion 6. I had arranged music and had loved the full London Symphony sampling. Its amazing how easy to use it on my iPad.

Cons

  • Until they put on the next update, changed the layout of the tools. The mandolins used to play on in a regular beat of its own, wether your tempo is slow, it performs the actual tremolo sampling, not being dependent on the set tempo. After the update, it lost its original natural tremolo tempo. The tremolo had became dependent on the tempo that it sounds so midi. If the beat is fast, the tremolo goes fast, and actually too fast it was so unnatural. If the tempo is slow, the instrument lost its tremolo, it just became a slow up-down picking. Before however, it was perfect. Some programing algorithm must have changed. I had complained about this to the company, but they don't seem to know what is going on. Even sent samples of the difference. But they never bothered.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • N/A.
  • Completely free Available Offline Ability to download scores from online Online forum Tools for mixing, and adding notes A file used by many other programs

Cons

  • MuseScore has consistently ignored my requests for refunds to services I DON'T WANT. And they make it as difficult as possible to get a refund through their website. Being based in Cyprus and run by private equity, I imagine they are like a parasite sucking their victim to death while hiding from the law.
  • Not available online No real-time collaboration. No easy way to transpose.
