About

Fabula is an experimental AI-powered co-creation tool developed by Google DeepMind to support writers in structuring, developing, and refining stories through an interactive and iterative process. Rather than acting as a traditional story generator, Fabula is designed to assist human creativity by helping users review, revise, and explore different versions of a story plan and script while maintaining full authorial control. It uses principles from classical narratology to guide the construction of narrative structure, enabling writers to build coherent plots, develop characters, and shape story arcs with AI-assisted suggestions. It allows users to navigate multiple levels of storytelling detail, from high-level plot outlines to more granular elements, making it adaptable to different writing styles, whether improvisational or highly structured. Powered by advanced language models, the tool generates coherent suggestions that help writers iterate on ideas.

About

Used by 95% of film and television productions. Final Draft is the choice of professional screenwriters and filmmakers around the world. Final Draft® 11 automatically paginates and formats your script to industry standards allowing writers to focus on what they do best: writing. Collaborate simultaneously with your writing partners IN REAL TIME - around the corner - or around the world. Speech to Script customizes Mac’s Dictation feature so you can write your screenplay without ever touching a keyboard. Use SmartType to cut down on keystrokes by auto-filling commonly used names, locations and more. Insert images on title pages, in the script or even in the Beat Board to help visualize your story. Use Alternate Dialogue to store as many different versions of lines as you can imagine. Eliminate distractions and get down to business with night mode.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Formats just like standard Hollywood script and has a few nice reformatting features and scene/character reports.

Cons

  • You can't hot key element type but have to mouse navigate; any imported scripts (even if output by final draft) have to have each element hand adjusted among other manual changes. There is zero support for languages with 'orbital' vowels and consonants - Particularly Thai and Khmer. I have opened numerous support requests and am always told it will be supported in a future version but has not been considered as of interest by their development team for over 5 years now. Both languages support unicode - word and open office and celtx all support but not final draft - and you can't paste in either - you just get non printing characters even if the system supports this languages for every other app (Windows 10 latest updates). So every script I work on in SE Asia has to be translated into english to format in final draft exported and translated back and then manually formatted to match the Hollywood 'paramount' format final draft provides. The developers are paid to work, right? All real software supports internationalization right? 😡😡
