About

FAST.com speed test gives you an estimate of your current Internet speed. You will generally be able to get this speed from leading Internet services, which use globally distributed servers. Download speed is most relevant for people who are consuming content on the Internet, and we want FAST.com to be a very simple and fast speed test. When you click the “Show more info” button, you can see your upload speed and connection latency (ping). FAST.com provides two different latency measurements for your Internet connection. “unloaded” and “loaded” with traffic. The difference between these two measurements is also called “bufferbloat”. To calculate your Internet speed, FAST.com performs a series of downloads from and uploads to Netflix servers and calculates the maximum speed your Internet connection can provide. FAST.com will test Internet speed globally on any device (phone, laptop, or smart TV with browser).

About

We will measure the speed from our servers to this computer. Results are often less than plan speed due to WiFi conditions and device capabilities. It is important to differentiate between the speed of the Internet connection “to your home” and the speed reached by an individual device “within your home” because they are two very different measurements. Internet speed tests, like this one or the test found at SpeedTest , measure the latest or the speed reached by the device running the test. The results of this test are often less than the speed of your plan due to several factors beyond the control of your Internet provider, including WiFi conditions and device capabilities. Good coverage means that your device is receiving a strong Wi-Fi signal. That strong signal also offers as much speed as your device can handle. The further you move away from your gateway (modem or router), the more the signal strength decreases, slowing download and upload speeds and reducing coverage.
