About

Eclair Mobile is a next generation, Lightning-ready Bitcoin wallet. It can be used as a regular Bitcoin wallet, and can also connect to the Lightning Network for cheap and instant payments. This software is based on eclair, and follows the Lightning Network standard.

About

Sparrow is a Bitcoin wallet for those who value financial self-sovereignty. Sparrow’s emphasis is on security, privacy and usability. Sparrow does not hide information from you, on the contrary it attempts to provide as much detail as possible about your transactions and UTXOs, but in a way that is manageable and usable. Sparrow supports all the features you would expect from a modern Bitcoin wallet. Full support for the single sig and multisig wallets on common script types. A range of connection options: Public servers, Bitcoin Core and private Electrum servers. Standards-based including full PSBT support. Support for all common hardware wallets in USB and air-gapped modes. Full coin and fee control with comprehensive coin selection. Labeling of all transactions, inputs and outputs. Lightweight and multi platform. Payjoin support, built in Tor, with Testnet, regtest and signet support. However, Sparrow is also unique in that it contains a fully featured transaction editor.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It's very easy to add money to the wallet. It's looks pretty. The interface is good, not necessarily better than any other wallet. It's really hard to find Pros when I actually haven't benefitted from this wallet at all.

Cons

  • Eclair is the worst wallet I've ever used (I have used 11 different wallets of various currencies at this point). There is NO WAY to get your money back out, unless through LN payments, and 99% of them don't go through, for various reasons. No LN payments have worked for vendors, other wallets, or exchanges, except one. I have no idea why that one worked. After waiting 10-15min every time you open the app, for it to "map the network," (wasting tons of energy, time, and data every time), you usually find that you still can't actually DO anything with the wallet, despite apparently being connected (yes, I wait for the little percentage to disappear in the corner). I've tried many different channels, I don't think the channels are the problem.. Eclair does not recognize most QR codes, which is VERY time consuming. I downloaded this to experiment with the LN, and it has been a colossal disappointment. I'm currently trying to get my money out by making an LN payment to an exchange (thankfully they accept LN pmts), so I can simply have my money back. I'm on my 7th attempt. Out internet is fast, my phone is fine, Eclair is the problem; this is completely unacceptable. IT SEEMS LIKE MY MONEY IS GONE. I cannot make lightning payments and there is no way to move BTC out otherwise. I highly recommend to everyone to AVOID THIS WALLET. I'm starting to think it's an actual scam :(

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Moving on from Electrum. The Sparrow UI and UX is so much better and cleaner. I've setup my Coldcard with it and all transactions show up.
  • Much prefer using this to the native Trezor software wallet. Also works with cold card and other seed signers. Great ux. Integrated coinjoin.
  • I mean, what's not to like? Sparrow suits you perfectly for almost every use case. Software only Wallet? Check. HW wallet integration? Check. Multi Sig? Check. Whirlpool Mixing for regaining financial privacy? Check. Active Development and Community? Check. Even if you are a beginner and use only a fraction of the functionality sparrow offers, sparrow is ready to do, what you will want to do at every stage of your knowledge curve. In addition to all that, Sparrow is a remarkable learning environment. There are numerous guides (either video or text) available for free, that teach you what you want to know, when you are ready.
  • Sparrow is simply the best. It's free, open source, does everything, and the support community on Telegram is amazing.
  • At the time of writing, Sparrow wallet is easily the best Desktop Bitcoin Wallet around, by a wide margin. It can do anything from managing a regular Bitcoin hot-wallet, to complicated multisig setups and cold storage solutions. They even added the brand new SeedQR format to make it compatible with the most state of the art DIY-bitcoin-signing-device. Also (to my knowledge) Sparrow is the only other Wallet with a working integration of Samourai's Whirlpool, so Sparrow actively helps users in preserving their privacy. It's compatible with Bitcoin-Core, Electrum-server and many more, so using it with your own Node is easy (and very much recommended). Oh, did I mention you can import an electrum wallet file directly into Sparrow (yes, even encrypted ones). What's not to like?

Cons

  • None so far. I've only used this for a couple of days but so far, so good.
  • Wish it scanned more derivation paths automatically.
  • UI can look a little retro to some, but the UX of sparrow has no equal to date. I'm certain, that the UI Design will get an update, as time goes on.
  • There is nothing negative about Sparrow. Self custody (and therefore self sovereignty) requires responsibility.
  • At first, I was intimidated by the amount of information Sparrow is showing, but only until I understood what I'm seeing. Then I quickly realized that every Wallet should display tx infos this way.
