About

Crestadoro is a networkable file indexing and search tool. You can install it on multiple Windows machines, create libraries of documents that reside on each machine, then search and access the files from anywhere on your network. You can install Crestadoro on as many machines as you like, both the indexing engine and the search client are easy to set up. You can optionally use SQL Server to store the data if you don't want to use the internal storage mechanism that comes as standard (though it is pretty wizzy!). The Community Edition is completely free to use, you can have as many libraries as you want, the only limitation is that each library can only hold a maximum of 100 documents. Crestadoro is named in honor of Andrea Crestadoro, a chap who lived a couple of hundred years ago who is generally considered to be the first person to come up with the idea of indexing a book by its content rather than its title. He was also an inventor who came up with some bonkers ideas!

About

Ingenious Search is a Windows desktop application for finding and organizing local files, searching supported email, and working with PDF and Word forms. Users can search by name, location, content, type, size, or date, then narrow results with exclusions and previews. Find Anything answers questions across indexed sources and links responses to supporting documents. File organization can create categorized copies with configurable names and folders, with destructive moves requiring confirmation. The app connects to Gmail and classic Outlook/PST data for searching messages and attachments. Its PDF workspace supports viewing, editing, annotation, signing, OCR, page management, and printing; form tools help detect and fill PDF or Word fields. Local AI and optional connected cloud AI are available for supported tasks. Designed for Windows users, small offices, and support teams managing large collections of documents and email.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I'm only using the community edition but that does everything I want, if I did need to upgrade them it seems reasonably priced for what it does.
  • I think the thing I liked the most was that it got the job done with the minimum of fuss. I tried a couple of other things that I couldn't understand but this worked well.
  • Its easy to set up, and works on a peer to peer basis so finding files on different machines is easy. Seems very low maintenance where resources are concerned, memory use is low.

Cons

  • I can't think of anything to put here, I have had no problems using this.
  • I didn't realise there was no setup thing, its just unzip and run. Thats probably my fault for not reading the instructions properly.
  • Nothing springs to mind. Interface maybe looks a little dated but it does the job.
