About

MySQL is the world's most popular open source database. With its proven performance, reliability, and ease-of-use, MySQL has become the leading database choice for web-based applications, used by high profile web properties including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and all five of the top five websites*. Additionally, it is an extremely popular choice as embedded database, distributed by thousands of ISVs and OEMs.

Why Couchbase is Better than MySQL

Couchbase is better than MySQL for applications that need flexible schemas, horizontal distribution, and consistently fast access to changing JSON data. MySQL is a proven relational database, and HeatWave adds analytics, machine learning, vector storage, and generative AI capabilities. Couchbase is designed around distributed document and key-value workloads, with SQL++ queries, search, analytics, eventing, and cloud-to-edge synchronization built into the platform. Developers can evolve data structures without extensive relational modeling while supporting globally distributed and offline-first experiences.
