About

Code Browser is a folding text editor for Linux and Windows, designed to hierarchically structure any kind of text file and especially source code. It makes navigation through source code faster and easier. Code Browser is especially designed to keep a good overview of the code of large projects, but is also useful for a simple CSS file. Ideal if you are fed up of having to scroll through thousands of lines of code. It supports syntax highlighting for all major languages and custom syntax highlighting can also be added. Although Code Browser was initially designed to edit programs, it can also be used for different tasks such as plain text outlining or helping to understand existing source code. I've added a page with suggestions to take advantage of folding.

About

Line-by-line Staging. Commit Editing. Unmatched Performance. With a zippy cross-platform GUI toolkit, an unmatched syntax highlighting engine, and a custom high-performance Git reading library, Sublime Merge sets the bar for performance. Commit exactly what you want with line-by-line and hunk staging. Select one or more lines to split hunks into multiple changes. With the power of Sublime Text syntax highlighting, you can understand exactly what's been changed in a commit. With over 40 supported languages out of the box, and automatic loading of installed third-party syntaxes, we've got you covered.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • This is how life with Code Browser is: Start writing code Initialization Globals Main loop to do requested tasks Opening screen Do task A Do task B ...etc. Each of the above is a link to an entire tree of code going as deep as you need. When it's been three years since you've looked at this source and you need to add a feature to task B, look how easy it is to find your way to the place you need! Code Browser is the only editor that lets you create your own hierarchy just the way you want it, just the way you think, no troubles. No other editor lets you do this. Every other editor wants to decide for you what gets folded and what doesn't (usually by looking at the code itself...but code isn't how ANYONE outlines and solves programming problems).

Cons

  • No one you know is using this wonderful program or has even heard of it. Everything about the program depends on one guy who wrote this editor in a language that no one (except him) uses. So, you get what you get.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Fast, simple and intuitive to use. Since we were all Sublime Text users the Shift-Ctrl-P menu was very easy to use.
  • - This a very fine, functional and clean design for a GUI client. - Avoids over complexity and focuses on the important stuff. - Its pricing is based on a free version with all the features but the ability to change skin to dark mode, so nothing stops you to try the product, all the features for all the time you need.
  • Compared to other programs that just destroy computers. This one opens quickly and work efficiently. The hotkeys could be a little bit more intuitive but can be worked around.

Cons

  • Gitkraken has much prettier colour schemes. The light and dark colour schemes of Sublime Merge are very subdued.
  • - Is not integrated with other mainstream IDE tools but Sublime Text. Is not a big pain for all the users that don't like in IDE git clients and prefer to have a clean separate tool for git stuff (which I recommend). - Is not integrated with cloud git providers so you can't expect to interact with your pull requests (or merge requests) directly through the GUI.
  • No real major cons. This program works well and is better than Electron or GitKraken. Custom themes would be cool, but not necessary, price has slowly been increasing.
