About

Code Browser is a folding text editor for Linux and Windows, designed to hierarchically structure any kind of text file and especially source code. It makes navigation through source code faster and easier. Code Browser is especially designed to keep a good overview of the code of large projects, but is also useful for a simple CSS file. Ideal if you are fed up of having to scroll through thousands of lines of code. It supports syntax highlighting for all major languages and custom syntax highlighting can also be added. Although Code Browser was initially designed to edit programs, it can also be used for different tasks such as plain text outlining or helping to understand existing source code. I've added a page with suggestions to take advantage of folding.

About

Quiver is a notebook built for programmers. It lets you easily mix text, code, Markdown and LaTeX within one note, edit code with an awesome code editor, live preview Markdown and LaTeX, and find any note instantly via the full-text search. A note in Quiver is comprised of cells, snippets of text, code, Markdown, LaTeX (via MathJax) or diagrams (sequence diagram, flowchart). You can freely mix different cell types within one note. You can set different languages for different code cells, too. The programmer's notebook should make code editing effortless. Quiver packs the awesome ACE code editor in code cells, with syntax highlighting support for more than 120 languages, over 20 themes, automatic indent and outdent, and much more. Quiver lets you write in Markdown with inline formatting and custom CSS options. A live preview window renders Markdown as you type. Quiver uses MathJax to typeset mathematical equations written in LaTeX.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • This is how life with Code Browser is: Start writing code Initialization Globals Main loop to do requested tasks Opening screen Do task A Do task B ...etc. Each of the above is a link to an entire tree of code going as deep as you need. When it's been three years since you've looked at this source and you need to add a feature to task B, look how easy it is to find your way to the place you need! Code Browser is the only editor that lets you create your own hierarchy just the way you want it, just the way you think, no troubles. No other editor lets you do this. Every other editor wants to decide for you what gets folded and what doesn't (usually by looking at the code itself...but code isn't how ANYONE outlines and solves programming problems).

Cons

  • No one you know is using this wonderful program or has even heard of it. Everything about the program depends on one guy who wrote this editor in a language that no one (except him) uses. So, you get what you get.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Brilliant app, best note taking app for developers. Nothing comes close other than maybe Obsidian and Joplin, but Quiver has them both beat.

Cons

  • App has not been updated to work with Mac's next gen OS (MacOS 27+)
