About

Carve Data Recovery is a Windows utility for recovering files from deleted, formatted, lost, or damaged volumes. It scans FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS, and can reconstruct partitions and directory structures when partition records or boot sectors are missing or damaged. When directory entries are unavailable, content-based carving identifies supported formats and determines file boundaries. The software previews files, creates byte-for-byte disk images, and reads SMART drive-health attributes. It supports 512-byte and native 4Kn sectors, USB drives, memory cards, and disk images. Users can recover documents, photos, media, archives, and supported CAD and 3D files, saving recovered data to a separate destination. Scanning and previewing are free; the free edition limits recovered files to 1 MB each, with paid perpetual licenses for individual computers, small teams, and sites.

About

R-Drive Image is a potent utility providing disk image files creation for backup or duplication purposes. A disk image file contains the exact, byte-by-byte copy of a hard drive, partition or logical disk and can be created with various compression levels on the fly without stopping Windows OS and therefore without interrupting your business. These drive image files can then be stored in a variety of places, including various removable media such as CD-R(W)/DVD, Iomega Zip or Jazz disks, etc. Using R-Drive Image, you can completely and rapidly restore your system after heavy data loss caused by an operating system crash, virus attack or hardware failure. R-Drive Image is one of the best backup and disaster recovery solutions to prevent losing your data after a fatal system failure. Simple wizard interface. Almost all actions can be specified by several mouse clicks, no in-depth computer management skills are required.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Very easy to use with a great simple interface. Does have some quirks but you soon find out how to get round them, Backup to image with no problems and then Cloned my hard drive which took a little longer than anticipated, but cloned perfectly.

Cons

  • At the time of writing I don't see any cons to this software, but then time will tell.
