About

Investing might seem hard, and you may think you need a lot to get started. That’s why we made CommSec Pocket, a simple investing app that brings investing within your reach. You can start investing with as little as $50, and gradually build a portfolio over time. Choose from 7 themed investment options and invest in something that appeals to you, like tech, sustainability leaders, or the biggest 200 companies on the Aussie market. We’ll help you along the way with bite-sized tips, videos, and articles to teach you all about the share market. CommSec Pocket has been named the winner of Canstar’s innovation excellence award! When you invest via CommSec Pocket, you’ll be buying units in an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF). ETFs are funds that trade on a stock exchange, just like shares – the difference is that an ETF represents an investment in a selection of companies and assets, while a share represents an investment in just one company.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It was definitely their affordable fees. Basically I was charged by only an annual portfolio management fee, which is still affordable. From my 10k deposit and potential 8% annual return, I’d pay only $81. Much better compared to platforms that charge fees for opening and closing each position.
  • In reliability and transparency. All important licenses, such as DFSA were there. In Dubai, it’s 100% legit.
  • I like they've set their annual fee to be far - 0.75%. Also I like they're totally transparent and safe - they got the DFSA regulation, and it's a big sign of credibility.
  • Obviously the safety of your money is the biggest advantage. They are licenced and have insurance up to $500,000 which is a lot. I like the application as well because it's done smoothly and even a beginner can navigate freely there.
  • I like the fact that their mobile application has a modern design and good interface. But what’s even better is personalised strategies. There are a different variety of them starting from conservative to aggressive ones. Also there are shariah compliant strategies alongside traditional, so it gives a good flexibility when it comes to choice. I spoke to the financial advisor, the first call is free so that is refreshing, he was super nice and knowledgeable.

Cons

  • I missed the desktop platform as it’s more convenient to use additional tools like stock screeners there. By the way, I didn't find similar tools, like screeners on their mobile app either.
  • The platform lacks charting tools and price indicators.
  • Can't say that I've had major issues with them, but currently I'm worried about the impact of the middle eastern conflict on its operational activities.
  • I'd really appreciate something like a blog from them where they can share useful information about the industry. It's like investing opportunities and how prices changed on some stocks. Or maybe success stories on how timely investing can pay off in years, that's my suggestion.
  • Nothing as of yet, they don't have crypto so it is just limited to stocks and ETFs.
