About

Bluefish is a powerful editor targeted towards programmers and web developers, with many options to write websites, scripts and programming code. Bluefish supports many programming and markup languages. See features for an extensive overview, take a look at the screenshots, or download it right away. Bluefish is an open-source development project, released under the GNU GPL license. Bluefish is a multi-platform application that runs on most desktop operating systems including Linux, FreeBSD, MacOS-X, Windows, OpenBSD and Solaris. Bluefish 2.2.12 is a minor maintenance release with some minor new features. Most important is a fix for a crash in a simple search. Python 3 compatibility has been further improved. Encoding detection in python files has been improved. Triple-click now selects the line. On Mac OSX Bluefish deals better with the new permission features. Also using the correct language in the Bluefish user interface is fixed for certain languages on OSX.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Easy to use. Nice search & replace, but cannot do multiple pgm S&R. Can load up multiple programs. Color coding of code is nice. Indenting works a little weird. Been using this product for 25 years.

Cons

  • Bug ridden. 2.2.17 (64bit) - you cannot Preview in the Browser because it is broken. No support to fix it. Bug ridden 2.2.17 (32bit) - If you backspace or delete code it cripples the mouse. Cannot scroll or click on some of the icons. You can reset the mouse by saving under File twice. No support of fix

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Overleaf is an online LaTeX editor, which makes it easy to write LaTeX independent of the device You are using. The free plan offers all You need to write beautiful and very precise customizable document layouts. You would have all Your projects in a user friendly web interface, where You can organize them in folders and assign labels. Another pro in my opinion would be that they offer special prices for students and groups of students.

Cons

  • Version Control for longer than one session is only possible in the paid plan, as well as Git/GitHub or DropBox integration. If you are starting from scratch, You will have to invest some time in learning how to equip yourself with the necessary packages and get handy in typing the basic commands. The best way of doing this would be to get hands on your project with the help of one of the templates overleaf offers (CV, formal letter, paper, book, etc.).
