Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Added Git support long time ago. Can now support deployment on Linux hosts. Offer an online SaaS alternative.
  • Azure DevOps Server is a comprehensive deployment package which helps in on-premises or cloud deployments. It has a great interface and multiple analytics tools. Azure DevOps Server also supports integration with third party tools.

Cons

  • Took too much time to add pipelines as code and the syntax used is horrible. Everything is wrapped around the team concept instead of product. Developers working on multiple solutions often have to search for something in multiple teams. Git support is an afterthought. The UI to access git repos is not optimised for finding what we need. Working on a complex solution is nearly impossible. User-stories, documentation, code, pipelines, etc. are contained in the same team. The software doesn't support collaboration between multiple teams in the same product, except for forks / pull requests. The website support only a single language. The integrated wiki is very limited and cannot publish public pages. The UX is a total mess. It is clear the tool is designed by developers for their own purpose. The pull-requests support is very limited. The CI/CD agents doesn't support the docker-in-docker approach, so we can't have a clean build environment on each build. Has a lot of overlapping features with a better product from the same company (GitHub).
  • No cons, it works really well and is quite improved from the previous version.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • The seamless integration with Azure DevOps is a massive advantage because it allows us to manage everything in one place. I really appreciate features like Smart Docs and the automated Traceability Matrix, which save countless hours compared to manual tracking in Excel. It bridges the gap between high-level requirements and actual development tasks perfectly.
  • Advanced Reporting is priceless when it comes to software quality assurance document creation, and their upcoming change to allow for reporting by iteration will be the final piece needed to make this a total gamechanger. The ability to create workflow diagrams and streamline use case creation and testing is amazing - and I love that I can link them to requirements with very little effort. The same can be said for creating mock-ups. The Trace Analysis helps insure requirements, tasks and test cases, and their relationships, aren't overlooked. The ability to easily create baselines and route reviews is great, and allows for easy tracking and reporting.
  • I can manage my requirements and other artifacts such as Use Cases, Scenarios, Diagrams and Test Plan/Test Case in one platform.
  • Modern Requirements is an indispensable tool in our workflow, offering us the ability to organize our requirements and output them to documents as needed. The traceability function is also extremely helpful allowing our teams an easy way to trace requirements to test cases. There are many other features available, but we do not regularly use them.

Cons

  • The initial setup and learning curve can be a bit steep for new team members. It’s a very powerful tool with many modules, so it takes some time to fully understand how to configure everything for specific project needs.
  • Not enough control for Administrators, such as managing licenses, who can create/modify reporting templates, modifying/deleting reporting templates, etc. Modern Requirement's Support Team is always able to quickly help with these tasks, but I'd prefer to manage them on my own. Not enough control on how PDFs are created (such as margins, orientation, page breaks, etc.). Word templates are unfriendly and create additional work if used. Risk Analysis, Importing and other enticing features are not available with the standard license. New features seem to require the higher tier license.
  • I would like to have a better integration between Modern Requirements' diagram and other diagram software, such as Microsoft Visio.
  • There aren't really any cons that affect our usage of the product.
