Pros & Cons from Real Users Pros Added Git support long time ago. Can now support deployment on Linux hosts. Offer an online SaaS alternative. Azure DevOps Server is a comprehensive deployment package which helps in on-premises or cloud deployments. It has a great interface and multiple analytics tools. Azure DevOps Server also supports integration with third party tools. Cons Took too much time to add pipelines as code and the syntax used is horrible. Everything is wrapped around the team concept instead of product. Developers working on multiple solutions often have to search for something in multiple teams. Git support is an afterthought. The UI to access git repos is not optimised for finding what we need. Working on a complex solution is nearly impossible. User-stories, documentation, code, pipelines, etc. are contained in the same team. The software doesn't support collaboration between multiple teams in the same product, except for forks / pull requests. The website support only a single language. The integrated wiki is very limited and cannot publish public pages. The UX is a total mess. It is clear the tool is designed by developers for their own purpose. The pull-requests support is very limited. The CI/CD agents doesn't support the docker-in-docker approach, so we can't have a clean build environment on each build. Has a lot of overlapping features with a better product from the same company (GitHub). No cons, it works really well and is quite improved from the previous version. Intuitive and user-friendly user interface. 5. Easy to use push, pull, commit and merge functionalities. 6. Free for personal use. - The best thing about using GitHub as a version controlling platform is the amount of third-party integration it supports. - It gives a step-by-step tutorial to create a repository and push code on it. - It is free for personal and unlimited amount of private repos can be made. - It also allows to host website builds on its platforms for free. - Specific access roles can be assigned to users. - It is free for personal use. - Creating a new repository is easy because of the detailed step-by-step tutorial. - It is reliable and secure to host private repositories. - Merge conflicts can solve directly from the UI. 1. GitHub is one of the most popular sites to host code repositories and version controlling of the projects. 2. The user interface of the application is clean yet feature-rich. 3. The platform is free for personal use, which makes it pretty useful for student and freshers starting out coding. 4. It can be integrated with almost any application available. These are the best part about GitHub- 1. The outsider reconciliations with GitHub are extraordinary. Azure permits us to associate straight forwardly to the GitHub repo and constantly send our code as the expert branch gets refreshed. 2. Unless you use a git client, it is quite hard to wrap your head around it initially because of the complex commands for pushing, pulling and resolving merge conflicts. These are some demerits - 1. Exchanging and overseeing branches is complicated and not excessively instinctive. 2. Downloading a specific record from the source tree is awkward and it is quite often simpler to download a speed of the whole branch. Not great.
