About

Flagsmith is a fully supported open source Feature Flag, Remote Config, and A/B testing service. Use our hosted API, deploy to your own private cloud, or run on-premise. Flagsmith makes it easy to create and manage features flags across web, mobile, and server side applications. Just wrap a section of code with a flag, and then use Flagsmith to toggle that feature on or off for different environments, users or user segments. Feature flags - Release features with confidence through phased rollouts. Remote config - Easily toggle individual features on and off, and make changes without deploying new code. A/B and Multivariate Testing - Use segments to run A/B and multivariate tests on new features. With segments, you can also introduce beta programs to get early user feedback. Organization Management - Organizations, projects, and roles for team members help keep your deployment organized. Integrations - Easily enhance Flagsmith with your favourite tools.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Added Git support long time ago. Can now support deployment on Linux hosts. Offer an online SaaS alternative.
  • Azure DevOps Server is a comprehensive deployment package which helps in on-premises or cloud deployments. It has a great interface and multiple analytics tools. Azure DevOps Server also supports integration with third party tools.

Cons

  • Took too much time to add pipelines as code and the syntax used is horrible. Everything is wrapped around the team concept instead of product. Developers working on multiple solutions often have to search for something in multiple teams. Git support is an afterthought. The UI to access git repos is not optimised for finding what we need. Working on a complex solution is nearly impossible. User-stories, documentation, code, pipelines, etc. are contained in the same team. The software doesn't support collaboration between multiple teams in the same product, except for forks / pull requests. The website support only a single language. The integrated wiki is very limited and cannot publish public pages. The UX is a total mess. It is clear the tool is designed by developers for their own purpose. The pull-requests support is very limited. The CI/CD agents doesn't support the docker-in-docker approach, so we can't have a clean build environment on each build. Has a lot of overlapping features with a better product from the same company (GitHub).
  • No cons, it works really well and is quite improved from the previous version.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • 1. It is straightforward to use and helps tremendously in releasing features. 2. The UI and UX of the software is well-designed and implemented. 3. The management of features is easy and does not consume a lot of time. 4. It comes with an affordable price tag.
  • * Cheap compared to other solutions * Very good support * Quick to fix bugs * Nice interfaces * Tons of options to do almost anything with feature flags and remote configurations
  • Easy to implement in code. Easy to use for product team. Inexpensive. Multiple projects and for each, multiple environments (e.g. Staging, Development, Production). End user segmentation into groups. Excellent support.
  • Easy to set up, easy to implement, easy to manage. I've used several feature flag tools both free and premium. Flagsmith is the easiest to use and the most robust, especially in their entry-level tiers. It was an easy decision!
  • UI is clean and easy to use. Extensive SDKs with support for various languages. A/B Testing and throttling. REST API support. Webhooks support to trigger actions on toggle.

Cons

  • It is not widely used and because of that, there is no strong community support available for this software.
  • * Not used by a majority of people yet so small community * The Open Source options is hard to install
  • I have yet to find something that needs to change in their solution. Note that some things are very hard to wrap in a feature toggle. For example DB schema changes which are not backwards compatible. This is not a problem specific to FlagSmith but rather a generic problem with these types of solutions.
  • I think it would be nice if we could send JSON objects instead of a string. For us, we could benefit from sending a more complex object as the value property. That being said, we were able to overcome the issue by parsing the string within our app. Honestly, it's just a minor, minor inconvenience for an otherwise great platform.
  • Self Hosted setup is tricky to get right. No metrics graphs. Permissions are a bit clunky.
