About

Autodesk Fusion is a cloud-based product design and manufacturing platform that combines CAD, CAM, CAE, PCB, and data management in one solution. It helps teams connect design, engineering, manufacturing, electronics, and collaboration workflows in a unified workspace. The software supports product development from concept to production with tools for modeling, simulation, machining, PCB design, and drawing automation. Autodesk Fusion also includes built-in PDM and PLM capabilities to reduce version conflicts, improve collaboration, and keep project data secure and up to date. Teams can choose from Fusion, Fusion for Manufacturing, and Fusion for Design depending on their needs for advanced manufacturing, simulation, generative design, and data management. With cloud collaboration, integrated workflows, and AI-powered assistance, Autodesk Fusion helps companies bring products to market faster.

About

Simulate real-world designs, devices, and processes with multiphysics software from COMSOL. General-purpose simulation software based on advanced numerical methods. Fully coupled multiphysics and single-physics modeling capabilities. Complete modeling workflow, from geometry to postprocessing. User-friendly tools for building and deploying simulation apps. The COMSOL Multiphysics® software brings a user interface and experience that is always the same, regardless of engineering application and physics phenomena. Add-on modules provide specialized functionality for electromagnetics, structural mechanics, acoustics, fluid flow, heat transfer, and chemical engineering. Choose from a list of LiveLink™ products to interface directly with CAD and other third-party software. Deploy simulation applications with COMSOL Compiler™ and COMSOL Server™. Create physics-based models and simulation applications with this software platform.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Comsol allows for creating physics simulations in a large variety of fields (from acoustics, to electromagnetics, to thermal applications, to fluid dynamics, to semiconductor physics, to.... you name them). The overall capabilities of Comsol Mutiphysics are pretty much endless as soon as you have to solve differential equations. Its GUI is really nice and is more intuitive than some other alternatives such as Abaqus.

Cons

  • At first it can be very intimidating and overwhelming. Deciding what "physics" you want to solve, setting up your first simulation, customizing your equations, calculating specific physical quantities, testing for convergence, ... This is true for most of the specialized software, but because of the multiphysics component, it can be daunting to get started with this particular software suite. To me, the most negative aspect is the customer support. I've been conducting research in my field for over 15 years and I've used multitude of software, from open source to commercial packages, and Comsol has the worst technical support of them all. Several years ago, I interviewed for a senior application engineer position at Comsol, and I was told by the senior managing engineer who was interviewing me two things that made me reject the offer they made: 1) that the company "does not care about academia because academic license are cheap and do not bring in money" (as opposed to industry) and 2) "Engineers at Comsol are not suppose to help people with their particular technical problems, they are here to refer the customer to online resource that already exist".
