About

Access and organize your files no matter where they’re located, on your device, in the cloud, on an external drive or file server, with Files. The Recents view displays the files you’ve been working on lately in high-resolution thumbnails. Use the powerful browse view to navigate folders, organize your files with tags, move files between folders, and search. Files also make it easy to access iCloud Drive and third-party cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Box, and OneDrive. Press the Files icon in the Dock or Home screen to quickly open a file from anywhere. Connect an external drive or SD card to your device to access the files. Connect to a file server at work or a home PC using SMB from files. Use tags to organize files stored with different cloud providers and across different apps. Pin your favorite folders in Browse view for quick access to the ones you use most. Give people access to any file stored in iCloud Drive by sharing a link from the files app.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Apple Files is an essential platform to be able to manage the documents or files you have on your iPhone device. The things I liked were: 1- Apple Files allows that directly to each of the actions of your mobile device, all the documents and files that you have within your iPhone device, in addition, it allows you to create new folders to be able to correctly manage the files and to be able to organize them by section, you will be able to store store them inside a specific folder with the help of Apple Files. 2- A function that I really like is the recently deleted function, it allows you to access the files that have been recently deleted from your iPhone mobile device, I love files or documents stored for 30 days, so you can recover them if you need them for some urgency. 3- This platform allows you to add a label to each of the files or folders that you have created within Apple Files, it is very important since it allows me to add labels with different names and with different colors for each of the files, this helps me a lot to be able to detect files I'm specifically looking for. 4- I love that the platform has a connectivity and a half with the iCloud system, this is quite important since it allows me to transfer files from my mobile device to my computer using the iCloud Drive function. I can move any type of file from my mobile device to this folder so that I can access it within iCloud on my computer.
  • Apple Files is a perfect application to be able to manage the storage of your mobile device or manage rationing of your iCloud account, the first positive aspect of this iCloud platform, because you can insert or store new files within your iCloud account using With this application on your mobile device, you can drag new files or documents to the iCloud folder and automatically those files will be sent to the cloud, in addition, it has this function that displays everything that is stored in that iCloud storage in real time For example, if you have inserted a new file inside that folder from your computer, you will be able to access that file using your mobile phone immediately. Another aspect that I really liked about this platform is that it allows you to add new tags to each of the files stored on your mobile device or within the iCloud system, these tags are quite good since they allow you to identify important files, you can add a different label with different colors for each of the files, in addition, another important function of this platform is the scanning of new documents, you can scan anywhere with this function and the platform will automatically create a new document where you will write in detail all missing information, this function is very important to create from the scan with your phone camera. Another important function that can be found within this platform is that you can access files deleted a short time ago, this function is essential as it allows you to recover information on your mobile device that you have deleted by mistake, in addition, I have loved the system of Sharing files or documents, files in real time with anyone who is registered in your contacts or with anyone you register within iCloud, just by accessing this section, you can choose with whom you want to share a specific file.

Cons

  • A very important function that is missing within this platform is the cleaning function, there is no type of function within this platform to be able to delete unnecessary files or copies of files that are necessary, this function would be very important to keep safe and fully accessible the storage space within your mobile device, I would love for this platform to implement this cleaning system. Another negative point of this platform is that it does not have any type of access to the iCloud Drive subscription, for example, if you want to increase your iCloud plan, you will have to directly access your iCloud account and buy one of the plans, this You must do it from your computer, since this platform does not allow you to increase the storage space of your cloud to the application, you must necessarily access iCloud.
  • Apple Files presents a majority of quite positive functions, that platform helps you keep your files and documents completely safe and managed, however, the first negative aspect of this platform is the function of connecting to the server, it would not allow you to remotely connect to any server, correctly typing the server address and port of that server, you will be able to connect immediately to extract some type of file or store new files, however, this function does not fulfill its objective correctly, since most of the servers that do not connect In addition, this collection of servers is currently used, which will cause the export and import of files or documents to be very slow. Another negative aspect that I could notice about this platform is that it is not customizable at all, the user cannot customize this platform to improve the community when it comes to managing their documents and files, there is no type of function to edit the interface platform overview.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • At this point, dropbox is one of the few apps I rely on regularly for both work and personal projects. Between work projects, personal files, and random documents I swear I'll organize someday, dropbox has become one of the apps I rely on the most. Most of my work involves sharing documents, project files, and folders with other people, and dropbox makes that process super easy. I like that I can save something on my laptop and access it later from my phone or another computer without having to email files to myself (which I used to do way more than I'd like to admit).
  • I’ve been using Dropbox mainly for storing and sharing documents with my team, and it works really well. The syncing across devices is smooth, and I never have to worry about losing files.
  • I like the automatic synchronization ensures that documents are always up to date on all devices. In addition, collaboration features such as document comments and shared folders facilitate teamwork and improve communication. Security is another advantage, with encryption and two-factor authentication options that protect our sensitive data.
  • Dropbox's security is a highlight. It uses encryption both in transit and at rest, which is crucial for protecting sensitive company data. The ability to set detailed file sharing permissions helps ensure that only authorized people can access critical information. In addition, integration with other productivity tools and platforms is a major benefit.
  • I use Dropbox regularly, and I find it super helpful for keeping my files safe and organized. It is easy to use, and I love how I can access my documents on any device, whether it is my phone, tablet, laptop or even through a web browser. The synchronization feature is great, and it ensures that my files are always up to date. The security is top notch too, with encryption that keeps my file very safe. I also love the fact that Dropbox integrates smoothly with other products like Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, making collaboration more convenient without switching platforms. Another great feature is the offline access, which allows me to work on files even without Internet. Also, I can restore deleted files or access previous versions, which is a lifesaver when things go wrong.

Cons

  • The biggest downside is the limited storage on the free plan. If you work with large files like videos, high-resolution images, or project archives, you'll probably run out of space much faster than expected. The paid plans solve this issue, but they can feel a bit expensive compared to some competing cloud storage services. I've also noticed that syncing large folders can occasionally be slower than I'd like, especially when uploading a lot of files at once. Another minor frustration is that sharing permissions can sometimes be confusing, particularly when collaborating with multiple people on different folders and projects. While none of these issues are dealbreakers, they can occasionally interrupt an otherwise smooth experience.
  • Free storage is quite limited compared to other cloud services
  • One aspect that can be frustrating is permissions management, which is sometimes confusing and requires detailed attention to avoid access errors.
  • While security is generally good, the lack of full control over the storage infrastructure can be a concern for some companies that handle highly sensitive information.
  • One downside of Dropbox is that the free plan only gives you 2GB of storage, which can fill up fast, if you have a lot of files. Also, the platform's search feature is not the best as it can be tricky to find files based on specific details like size or type.
